My bro had a bad vehicle week. His 95 Honda Civic broke a window, that he replaced just before the fuel pump crapped out which is causing him to give up on the vehicles age to nickle and dime him anymore.
Then today his girlfriend crashed her car.http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&postid=3606897#post3606897
So now they need to impulse purchase a car and their budget is $5000.
They know nothing of vehicles and I only know a little bit from being a Beyond lurker. So I thought I would hopefully get a few experts advice.
Please post what you think is not a rip off.
They both just switched jobs to be social workers for children. Just in case you're wondering if you are helping out nice people or not. So they are not making big money yet just helping out the kids.

On a side note The 95 civic will prob be for sale. I know that is a pretty popular project vehicle.

Thanks allot guys
:D

I have a '99 Saturn SL2 they might want. Its been in my family since new, and has yet to break down once. Its amazingly reliable, you have no idea.
New tires, starter, serpentine belt, front brakes & rotors, wipers and a few other things. Alpine CD player W/USB, green in color with black /grey interior. Its a 5 speed manual though, not too sure if they can drive a stick.

It'll pass the mechanical inspection with flying colors, the only bad thing is it could use a new exhaust from the cat back, but thats a $20 fix at Pick 'N Pull, just cut off the exhaust and replace the one on the car.
let me know if you're interested.

i was looking to spend 5 grand last year on a car. I ended up buying a 98 escort and banking 2500 just incase things break. 1 year in ive had no problems at all with the car and i like driving the car as much as i like my gfs 2001 civic. i would defiinitely look into this. I am not associated with the seller though. good luck

Yah man the zx2 escorts ROCK as far as reliability. Somebody i knew had one and they put that car thru absolute hell, like, canadas worst driver hell, and it took it, and i think it died at like 280,000k or more. Never did any manintnance on it. Sick tough car.

Yeah, I'm likeing the escort too. He wants to look at a Hyundai tomorrow. My main goal is to talk him out of that one.

Yeah id go with the escort. Had a buddy who had one, he took it off jumps and it put up with everything. everyone elses replies about audis and shit are garbage...They might look nice, but are mechanically brutal. Id go with an older car with LESS km's than a pretty NEW car with more km's any day! GL with sale

+1 for Escort! My first car was a Escort ZX2 and I drove it like a bat out of hell for three years and never had any problems.

buy a 4x4 ford escape.
excellent in snow... practical and pretty decent fuel mileage for suv's

a good overall dd.
5k gets you in the 1st gen escapes

riding in a first gen escape is what got me sold on it by how it handled the snow with traction control on summer rims on all seasons.

suffice to say i bought a 2009 escape.
excellent vehicle .
avail commonly 4spd auto
5spd manual (personally id pick this one)
