Has anyone used Killz Primer/sealer?

Im buying a house and the previous homeowners cooked some weird things. I was just wondering if anyone here has used that Killz primer stuff. Apparently its supposed to block stains and smells.
My question is has anyone actually used it? and how effective is it?

I used to sell this stuff years ago.

From what I remember the oil based stuff worked much better for blocking in odours. I had a contractor that had to repaint an apartment where the previous owner had died and was not found for several weeks. They ripped out the carpet and he sprayed the place top to bottom and it worked. It's not cheap though as you don't get as much coverage with a gallon of this stuff compared to regular top coat.

The oil based primer covers up stains/smells much better than water based, but be careful, it's very strong.

yep, painted my house when we bought it, used Killz quite a bit as the previous owners like to live in their own fecal matter, and spread it on the walls. after a scrub, used it on the stains and worked great.

I used this when I painted last year and I have no complaints at all.

Nice even colour on the top coat.

Did my living room and also did the kitchen once the 30 year old cabinets were down :barf:

I've seen a friend use it on a 30 year old unpainted garage drywall, with water stains... he has to go over it with Killz 3-5 times (with the water spots)... but the garage turned out extreme bright white (paint, not killz)

See thats what i was wondering. From what i've been told tho oil based isnt supposed to be used on the interior? or since this is just a primer it doesnt matter because it gets painted over anyways?

Everything i've heard says use water base indoors.

I used the Kilz Premium water based product on the subfloor in my daughter's bedroom to seal in a bit of a musty odor that I couldn't remove after I tore out some old, nasty carpeting.

Works great. Room is super fresh.

I used kilz latex based primer to block water stains on the drywall in my basement... worked perfectly, 1 coat of primer, and 2 coats of paint, and there is no bleed through. I dont know about odour blocking though...

I've used kills before, ive done a few bathroom jobs where the Subfloor is stained and stinks like shit, spray that down and it blocks I'd say a good 90% of the odor, after finishing over it and your good to go

I used Kilz 2 latex throughout my house when we moved in and it worked great. Covered everything well, and my house had all sorts of things done to the walls over the years (built in '56), it even covered oil based paint.

Thats what I have to cover up. So did you you the latex water based stuff for the inside?
