I have done many swaps of Mobo's and other parts on a normal PC. When you upgrade, windows will recognize the parts and work just great.

Now I run a home server using WHS. Can I just take the old Mobo and CPU out and put in a new one or are there additional steps to be done? Dont want it crashing out. All my crap is in there.

I did a motherboard swap on my WHS. Went from an Intel G35 based board to an AMD 760G based board. To my surprise, WHS didnt have any issues as you would expect with XP. Just had to uninstall the old drivers, install the new ones and good to go.

Just my experience, but obviously do a backup just incase.
