Hey Guys,

Considering buying this for my attached garage.
Insulation in my garage is pretty good & i've had a quote of $1800 to have my garage heated with a 45000 BTU Reznor heater.

Then today I found THIS
http://www.rona.ca/shop/~heater-propane-convection-heater-mr-heater-433972_!propane-heater_shop (http://http://www.rona.ca/shop/~heater-propane-convection-heater-mr-heater-433972_!propane-heater_shop)

- Anybody have experience with this?
- How does the price of propane compare with price of gas?
- Will it be sufficient in heating the garage for me to be able to work on my car?

Calcana has propane heaters that are cheaper then 1800... I'm sure I could get you one for around 1200. I remember going to car shows and stuff with a demo propaine heater, which I would run for 2 - 3 days, 8 - 10 hours a day with just one MAYBE 2 tanks.

This does not look like it's meant for non vented garages. Propane heaters with no venting do two things, produce carbon monoxide and burn up oxygen, both will kill you.

Regular gas heater is $1800.
The propane heater is $130.
I may have been misleading in my earlier post-sorry.

Yeah, that doesn't sound very good at all.

I know people who use similar setups, not sure how they are venting it or if they are at all. But, it gets really hot in one area as you can imagine. So, you'd have to get a pretty big fan to circulate the air anyways.

I run a 50,000 btu propane heater in my garage when i work in there during the winter. I havent noticed any issues with oxygen deficiency. Usually i use it to get the garage to temperature, and use my wood burning stove to keep it there, but this winter i kind have the stove blocked off and its been all heater. Havent noticed any light headedness or anything.

Definitely have to be careful using these. Used two in a Quonset when doing some work on a car. (Had the man door cracked for fresh air) We were in there for about 3 hours without stepping outside. Fucked me and 2 friends right up. Nausea, lightheaded, etc. Woke up with the worst headache the next day and felt hungover. Sort of scared to use these after that!

WTF would you have no venting on a garage heater? its fucking stupid... just fucking install one, its easy, takes maybe a couple hours for a first timer.

Propane is considerably more efficient at creating heat.
An infra-red heater like the Calcana is considerably more efficient than a Reznor blow-around unit, and the advantages add up quick.

calcana's are the only way to go for garage heaters period.

If you want a gas one i have a brand new one with venting and thermostat with electric igniter.
Zero clearance furnace 2 feet by 2 ft and 7 feet tall.
I forget the btu output but it will heat a 440 foot space comfortable.
pm me if interested.
It can be re-jetted for propane as well.
