"According to the daily, no Iranian naval vessels have passed through Suez since the Islamic Republic was established in 1979, causing a bitter rift between Tehran and Cairo."

I'd expect Israel to do 24 hour helicopter and fighter plane scrambles as a precaution.

The only nation stirring shit here Israel. It seems like they control the international waters now.:dunno:

You don't understand, it is alright for Israel to do things they want others to stop. Iran can't have nukes but Israel can, Iranian ships are not allowed to transit open waters or visit the waters of allies but Israel is allowed to blockade the same waters.:nut:

Which country is calling for annihilation of another country? What country is facing sanctions by over 50 nations for its unclear nuclear ambitions? What country blatantly supports terrorism? Leave the Law & Society section, back to Car Audio for you

The other question is: Will their old outdated ships even be able to make it there?

Supports terror?? Prove it? Got credible links, or is this exact like an Iraq WMD thing?

As for sanctions, you know as well as I do it is a handfull of countries loyal to the US, or dependent to the US, or bribed by the IMF (ie, loan tied to the vote).... not 50.

You should know that NO NATION ON EARTH has had as many resolutions against it as Israel has....nor is any nation in BREACH of as many resolutions as Israel is. There would be MANY MANY more, but since the UN is not democratic, the US continues to block any new ones against Israel.

As per Israel

The translation presented by the official Islamic Republic News Agency has been challenged by Arash Norouzi, who says the statement "wiped off the map" was never made and that Ahmadinejad did not refer to the nation or land mass of Israel, but to the "regime occupying Jerusalem". Norouzi translated the original Persian to English, with the result, "the Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."[11] Juan Cole, a University of Michigan Professor of Modern Middle East and South Asian History, agrees that Ahmadinejad's statement should be translated as, "the Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad).[12]

If you ask me, the US would love an Iran conflict - it would let them do a "try again".

Europe stands to lose a lot, the Suez is pretty key in that area. If passage is allowed to all ships then they could be off the coast of Britain in a couple weeks.

This is one of those times where Euro and US interests probably conflict.

US will be keeping a close eye on this for sure, but really I don't see an issue.

Fuck it. I don't give a shit. not one bit.

But I am getting sick and tired of hearing the same bullshit arguments everywhere, sick of it being on the news, ect...

Just fucking let them go at it, lets place bets. Fight to the death. one can wipe out the other. I am getting so sick of this "MOM! he's LOOKING at me AGAIN!" kind of crap. Let them have their war, someone can be the victor, and the issue can be settled once and for all. Short term pain for long term gain.

 This isn't even news, this is propaganda. Yes, I'm sure the story is true, but we only hear about it to instill the idea of "oh no, evil Iran's fleet is on the move." Why does anyone give a crap? Propaganda isn't just based on reporting fake news, but also on making meaningless stories seem important to solidify an idea.

They are in international waters and there is not a thing anyone can do about it. Personally, I don't believe half the spin the media reports on Iran.

Its not fake. Whenever you send a ship out, like the George Washington aircraft carrier into Korean waters - its usually announced well in advance, sometimes years in advance.

That doesn't mean its not provocative. Cargo ships are under great scrutiny, but military vessels are always sabre rattling.

There is a protocol for going through the Suez and Panama, its expensive as hell too (think of a toll bridge for cars, but with water and ships - and tolls for billion dollar tankers)

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_does_it_cost_to_use_the_Suez_canal

Which can be seen as oppressive to some nations, especially poorer ones. For any nation that legitimately uses it on a weekly basis for fleets of ships - they gladly pay hundreds of millions of dollars a year because it actually cheaper than wasting the time and fuel going around the whole continent.

And I'm pretty sure - that the Iranian vessels did not queue up for usage, or are planning on paying. My guess is they will sail right up to the "line" bring out a gigantic protest flag, and then sail back home. There is nothing else to be done, and they would be foolish to try to run the Suez or throw a rock at a billion dollar tanker.
