well for a different perspective not a single one of my white friends has a white rapper at the top of their list, I think a lot of white kids that are metal fans though like white rappers for some reason. I personally think most white rappers have no flow. In fact I can't listen to eminem, I got his newest CD and ended up deleting it off my itunes because every song is 4+ minutes of him yelling, and rapping about how he is over kim (wait hasn't he been saying he is over kim for the last 10 years???).

I think saying other races don't sound good when rapping is a pretty silly thing to say (unless you are just stating your own opinion), this definitely doesn't apply to many white people i've come across. Especially when you think, radio stations have to cater to the masses right? well then why if the majority of the population in calgary is white, do we have so many black rap artists at the top of the charts on radio stations, don't you think rappers like Eminem would be the ones at the top all the time if this were true?

But to add to the current list i'd say luke boyd is pretty successful.

Stop listening to the radio, it's clouding your mind. The best rappers are ones you've probably never heard of. Here, I'll even ignore Eminem for the sake of argument.

Let's start with number 5: Jin (Asian)

PTWlFQbaalQ

Number 4: Big Pun (Peurto Rico?)

Rqb4dywqh_c

Number 3: Fat Joe (Peurto Rico?)
This one is produced by DJ Premier, one of the top producers in the business. When you've got DJ Premier attached to your record, you know you've made it.

cl2S2yklVoc

Number 2: B Real
Love this track.

5DmjCrnYJ5o

Number 1: Atmosphere (straight white)
Saw this guy live here in Calgary and it kicked the doors off the live Snoop show I saw a year earlier. He's got more talent than almost any other rapper I listen to and a producer that can really put out some good stuff.

kMd4XY8XSyM

For the hell of it, let's keep going:

Fred Durst:

_at7glObl7o

Everlast:

cQ0m0cOCuyQ

Classified (should have mentioned him earlier)
He's got much better songs but I thought this one would be a little more spirited....

He did get over her, then they remarried, now he's doing it all over again.
And which part of his new album is about Kim? I checked though some of his lyrics of his new songs, I didn't see Kim mentioned anywhere. Which song is it she's mentioned in?

No, you're assuming your level of radio play is a direct correlation to your talent.....oh how I wish that were true, maybe I'd put a radio back in my car for the first time in 6 years. Unfortunately artists have become entertainment brands instead. Marketing analysts get a hold of someone that looks good and has a sob story and whores them out to every 8-15 year old on the planet for profit. And most of the rappers today grew up listening to radio rappers like......well whoever's rapping on the radio now.

The difference with Eminem and why he's so much better than other rappers is his technical ability when rhyming. He didn't grow up listening to radio trash, he grew up listening to proper, actual hip hop like Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Flash, Doug E Fresh, Slick Rick, The Roots........actual hip hop. So he built his base on artists with pure technical ability because The Roots and Big Daddy Kane would embarrass any modern rapper into last week. Listen to how he rhymes and where each rhyme falls.....sometimes it's one word rhyming with another......sometimes it's one word rhyming with 2 words.....hell, I've heard Eminem rhyme one word with 1 and a half another word, it's craziness. That's talent.

Lil' Wayne deserves more respect than he gets I think, I don't like his voice and I really don't like his beats but he's technically very good. If he moved over to Aftermath I think he would be a lot better received by the public. But this is his style and he's doing it the way he likes it.

The reason he deserves more respect is because one day he decided he wanted to be the Jay-Z of rap and he wanted to be able to flip an iconic verse straight off the top of his head instead of writing it down and performing it off a pad of paper like most artists.

So Lil' Wayne went into the booth and recorded everything he had written down in one straight take, you can actually hear him on the cut ripping pages out of his book as he's going. Once he finished that recording, everything he performed after that was out of his head and nothing was written down. When you can make up a verse in your head, memorize it with no effort and then go perform it on stage the next night, that is talent. And that's how Jay-Z operates, nothing on any of his albums has ever been written down, he just makes it up as he goes.

"The shit I don't write be the illest shit that's ever been recited in the game, word to the hyphen in my name" - Jay-Z

After thinking about it, I realize that I did indeed base my opinion (and that is indeed what it was - an opinion) on what is perhaps more "mainstream rap". And I agree - just because something is played a lot doesn't mean it is good music. Look at all the bubblegum bullshit Britney Spears or Lady Gaga has spewed out.

Add to that the fact that I haven't really been up on the scene for the last few years....

That "Atmosphere" guy really is quite good. As far as "White Trash Beautiful" and Everlast in general, I really don't consider that rap. I guess the genre does get clouded with all the performers out there.

I still maintain that the vast majority of good rappers are black. But I do see how my initial post was perhaps a bit of a rash blanket statement and not entirely true.

Atmosphere is a huge artist that refuses to break out. One of the lyrics from his song goes, "I still say fuck a major label 'til it limps." He absolutely refuses to sign to a major record label, not sure why. He likes the underground, for some reason hundreds of millions of dollars don't appeal to this guy.

Check out one of my favourites from him:

About Everlast, that song isn't really rap but you said they had to be good and they had to be currently successful. So it was either post a House Of Pain song where he's rapping or post a recent song where he's successful. I chose the recent one.

I imagine (without doing any research at all) that he doesn't want his message and sound to be controlled by a corporation. Rap isn't like pop - by a label dilluting it, pop can be almost an identical song. Rap - less so.... especially the way messages in rap tend to be scrutinized at a higher level.

Didnt he say "Current Successful Rappers"?
Naming youtube ones are still just youtube ones, and naming rappers who just produce or dont even rap anymore arnt current successful rappers.

The question was name 5 "successful" rappers who arnt black.
Looking back on what rappers had and are having the most successful careers; the ones that did the best are usually the black ones.
You can be the top youtube rapper ever, but if no ones buying your songs then youre still a youtube rapper in the end of the day.

So far the only one namned really is Eminem. (Everyone already knows that one...)
As for ICP...Seriously...
