View Full Version : Free VIN check for all

carzcraz

This may have already been posted somewhere on here but you're entitled to three VIN checks a day:

http://52internet.net/autocheck/

Our two cars are too new to have any info. recorded so I cannot tell you how accurate this is compared to carfax, carproof etc. You can't complain too much though as it doesn't cost you a dime!

Just tried it with my car. Seems fairly accurate, but it said there was no lien on the car, even though there is. All the registration history was correct though. Free so can't complain. Bookmarked, thanks!

worked great for me as well. only problem though was they say two owners previously which is wrong. However they have accurate dates of every time the car was renewed/registered

this is nice, my car come from 11/13/2001 RICHMOND HILL, ON hehehe

But it does have a salvage tittle on it, but on the report it doesnt, but the only reson the salvage tittle is because it was stolen and some of the stuff inside the car were missing, airbags, radio, steering wheel broken but nice find thanks

My car has a rebuilt title, this came up clean.

Better than nothing I guess, but not by much.

I searched my first car, a 99 Metro, which had a rebuilt status because of an accident and it didn't show up. I don't know wtf the owner's been doing with it because there's no records since I sold it to her and she registered it two years ago.

It is junk.

it has the KMs wrong on my Jeep, does not report the 2 hit and run accidents on my Jeep. Reported my Jeeps kms at 33 and change after I bought it when I never reported the milage, and I bought it with 27k on it...

States that my truck has a clear title and no accidents, when my truck has a salvage title and the accident I was in last August.

Site is up and still works. You need to register now and fill in a Simplified Chinese CAPTCHA. Refer to this website for how to get the symbols and then just copy and paste into the FREE VIN website upon registering. Works a treat.

Found another VIN check for free.
First, get the VIN for the car
Then search for dealer autocheck inurl:vin
Click on the first search result-not the ads! (right now it leads to an autoexact.com site with the VIN from a 2002 Nissan Frontier SVE / SuperCharged but that may change)
Replace the VIN in the URL in your address bar with your own VIN. Note that if there's any other information after the VIN, such as an id=####, just replace the VIN and keep the other info intact.
Worked for me but no mileage is shown.

Thanks for the tip. Just checked one of my cars that I know has a major repair on it's history (~$7500) and it shows as clean. It's handy to have a tool like this but just remember, it doesn't give you the full picture.

Autocheck is mainly for US cars. This will help if you are looking to import something. For canada, it doesn't have enough info.

If people are saying it is wrong about significant accidents, salvage titles, mileage, etc. I wouldn't be using it. Doesn't hurt to use it of course but if you can't trust it, it's kind of useless is it not?

The ironic thing is that I'd probably spend way more money on Carproof if it was only $7 a pull. I'd use it haphazardly on cars that I'm only somewhat interested in. At $40, I'm only checking cars I've already seen in person.

Anyone else having issues with this one yet?

Tried running one yesterday and it came back blank. I emailed the site and their response was "You must must must open the carfax report link from a USA IP. this is a carfax limitation not a limitation from us. In the future make sure you use a USA IP. "

The report you get from this vs an actual carfax report is quite different.

Out of curiosity I ran a VIN from this website and carfax.ca and they were very different.

So those who use this site beware results may not be as accurate.

This site likely pulls from .com so its not great for canadian cars, but i would imagine it still should have critical stuff like damages/claims etc... the car i ran showsd all its registrations/renewals and dealer maintenance

When I dug up that link I actually compared the report with an actual Carfax report for the vehicle I was looking at as well and for that vehicle the reports were identical. If that's not the case for every vehicle out there then I don't know. I guess take use it (or not) at your own risk.

Just be aware you may not be getting all the info. I compared it to a proper carfax from canada and it had a lot of missing info

beyond_ban

What did you notice missing? Seemed quite comprehensive to me, the only thing that annoyed me is it identified an accident but only stated $2k+ rather than an actual number.
