An article I wrote about the Heritage Classic and what the outdoor game means to Canadians:

http://nhlhotstove.com/the-heritage-classic-a-tribute-to-the-game/

Alex Tanguay on playing outdoors:

"It was so much fun playing outside. As a Canadian kid and most of the American kids playing in the north had a chance, at one time or another, to play outside. It makes the experience that much more fun. The ice is really good. It’s something that now, being in the NHL and getting a chance to play that game outside, it’s going to be fun. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Whats your favorite outdoor hockey story/moment?

Well after all these years, the official "ugliest jersey award" has been handed over from Vancouver to Calgary:

Those were indeed horrible jerseys - though that pic of the Toronto one is pretty bad too.

My fav moment: Not being sure if my toes were still pink, or if they had become black and were seeking a disconnect from the rest of my foot. Are they there... are they not? The unknown was probably more exciting than sitting in a seat which obstructed the play about 40% of the time.

The Heritage Classic jerseys were kinda gross at first, but they grew on me and now I want one. I'm hoping they go on sale when stores try clearing stock. Is there anyone on here that's *ahem* an inside guy for a sporting goods store that might know *cough cough*?

I got a good laugh out of this though:

And yes, the Habs' christmas prison garbs have got to be the worst modern jersey around (though Minny's jerseys definitely deserve a nod... or dry heave).

IMO the heritage classic jersey is a thing of beauty. Montreal could have done something exciting, they pretty much just threw a heritage classic crest on there away jerseys.

i thought the Wave that went about 5 or 6 minutes in the 3rd was pretty cool to watch

My favorite part was some drunk guy falling down the stairs in my section in the 1st period

the wave going on in the 3rd was one of my favorite moments there. felt electric in that place though, definitely reminded me of the playoffs in the c of red.

had a great time and would definitely do it again

Haha our section was 'waving' most of the game to try and keep warm. We bought a shitload of handwarmers and were handing them out to people who looked the coldest.

Me getting drunk off my ass, not being able to see a damn thing on what was really going on/watching the jumbo tron more than anything, and the Jim Beam's that was being passed around in a sneaky Canadian can.

Oh I can't remember much of the 3rd period, or getting home.

Would I ever spend the money to go again? Fuck no. But it was a really cool experience that I would recommend anyone go see once in their lives. They view is just not worth it.

But mind you I had $200 tickets (if you include taxes and what not) that I picked up for $125, so I'm not complaining.

Coles notes: Very cool experience, but would not do again.

Seeing all the hockey fans everywhere. You didn't have to be Flames or a Habs fan to enjoy this one.

We sat a couple of rows up from the "goal light on a helmet" guy that was at all the Olympic games. He must bring a lot of friend to help carry in all the signs and huge flag that he waves around.

What i don't understand is why they sang star spangled banner? They didn't sing out anthem when Penguins played Capitals in the outdoor game.

The Canadian National Anthem was sung at the Winter Classic.

I am not much of a flames fan but I do think those jerseys are pretty sweet, way better than some of the other jerseys that have made it into the league.

A gigapan is essentially a photo stitched together from hundreds of other photos.

There is bound to be a glitch here and there.
