I love sushi ichiban, and I always go there for sushi. They have hot pot there and I tried it for the first time last week. it was fantastic, but I'm wondering if theres anything better out there as far as hot pot goes.

There's vietnamese hot pot on 16th ave between centre and 4th NW. I really like it because you can have unlimited other viet stuff (mmm salad rolls  )

There's a lot of chinese ones floating around.
Regency (dragon city downtown 3rd floor) is a self serve one and you can have the chinese buffet included in the price.

Happy Hill (centre north right over the bridge) is another good place.

I heard the chinese cultural centre's basement is really good now.

I would have to agree with the idea of making your own. It's always the best way flavour-wise.

But I would say Forbidden City and Regency are OK, with Forbidden City being a bit better out of the two.

I like forbidden city as well. They seem to accept me there even though I'm a whitey. Love me some shrimp paste.

That sounds about right.
It's where coffee time used to be. Its on the north side between balmoral jhs and sushi king.

Yeah for me, two places came to mind when I saw this thread:

Forbidden City and the aforementioned Nammer place on 16th.

A warning about Forbidden City though, all the drinks cost like $1 or something when getting the hot pot. Even water and tea.

happy hill, unlimited drinks i think cost extra
chinese cultural center (cheapest in the city i think)
18.95 per person, unlimited drinks for free
forbidden, unlimited drinks for extra 3 bucks i think

chinese cultural center is pretty good now, buffet style, i like how they have a variety of sauces.

happy hill seems to have the least amount of msg out of the three i go to.

i hate having hot pot at home, for the amount i eat and what i eat its cheaper going out.

plus no clean up

+1 for forbidden city, they pretty much have the freshest ingredients there, i believe its the priciest of hot pot, but well worth the money.

My 2nd place would def have to be the cultural centre as many ppl here have said, it's even better if you're a seafood person as theres quite an abundance there.

it could be a little late for hotpot, but 1 draw back for forbidden city is they are limited on how much they serve u a time. I dont mean we order so much that they dont think we can finish n cause waste. But there was 6 of us n all we wrote on the order form is 6 beef n 10 eggs, the 10 eggs shows up, with only 1 little thing of beef n refuse to give us more until we finish the little plate of it. This might not apply to a lot of people, but for those who loves just beef (like me n my friends :D ) expect a bit of slower service as they can only give you so much a time. everything else is awesome other then tips goes to the owner n not the servers ( I was told the servers get a set $2/hr for tips... back when i was a waiter in some small chinese rest. i make usually $90 a day for about 6 hrs of work...)

If this is true then it makes total sense because I went there for dinner twice in the last couple months and the service was pretty brutal.

yeah my place reeked for probably over a week, but it was frickin delicious. I'd say the place at the Cultural Center is definitely worth a go as well

I google'd hot pot, it just sounds like a plate of boiled foods... and boiled foods are typically bland, no?

boiled in a broth of your choice, so nope... pretty darn GOOD!

its all about the sauce you make!

bituerbo

Erm, but what if you don't know what you're doing with the sauce? I like Open Sesame, but I'm horrible with flavour ideas and I sometimes make less-than-desirable meals.

How can I enjoy this deliciousness?

the sauce I (n most Hongers :D ) use is just an raw egg beat with some soya sauce n "sa-cha" sauce ^^ hotpot is one of my fav, through out winter i ate hotpot about 40% of the time either at home or some where outside

yeap. they said they'll be having AYCE hot pot for another few months till they stop for the year

I still hit up Happy Hill but I find hot pot not as exciting and filling when there are larger groups. :dunno: When I go with say 5-6 friends it's good, lots of food etc. But when the numbers get up to 10-12, just ain't the same. :nut:

I have to eat hot pot at home ever since I got AAA tenderloin sliced up for the beef. It's not cheap, $140 worth in this pic, but it's the only way I can do it now. Just melts in your mouth!

Is that place supposed to be the best? I still really like Regency to be honest. Good selection of food and sauces for dipping.

I have seen some of your other hot pot pictures and you really need to do a DIY Hot Pot thread.

That looks awesome.

+1 for Regency over Cultural Centre for hot pot. Been to both places recently and Regency had the larger and fresher selection.

Went to regency yesterday and came out overly satisfied, still full from it.

The only thing they need to do is label their damn sauces.

Tried out the Pacific Mall restaurant at marlborugh t&t. They had a larger selection than the cultural center, with some weird ones like SPAM and cheese balls. I think it was $25 so a bit move expensive than cultural center.

regency is the best, been going there weekly for a while. It has free orange juice, lemonade and iced tea available in dispensers. Also the selection of sauces and freshness of food is great.
