A 50-year old man from Calgary died Tuesday morning as a result of injuries he received in a accident involving three semi-trailer trucks Monday evening on Highway 1, near Hope, B.C. The accident closed the Trans Canada and the highway is expected to remain shut down to traffic until noon Tuesday.

Fraser Valley Traffic services and the Hope Detachment of the RCMP were called out to the scene at just after 9 p.m. It happened on the south side of Emory Creek Bridge. The three semis that were involved in the accident were all loaded commercial vehicles.

RCMP are saying that weather may have played a significant role in this accident. It was snowing heavily and the roads were icy.

A 2001 Peterbuilt semi hauling two trailers of lumber was driven by a 30-year old man from Abbotsford. The truck was southbound on Highway 1 and had just crossed the Emory Creek Bridge. After the bridge, there is a corner road the truck was not able to negotiate. The driver crossed the double solid centre line and struck another semi truck head on.

This truck was being driven by a man from Surrey. He had a partner driving with him, the Calgary man who was a passenger in the truck.

When the two vehicles finally came to a stop, they were completely blocking the highway. The third truck, a southbound lumber truck was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision and struck the trailer of the second semi broadside. The 43-year old man driving this truck is from Abbotsford.

The drivers of the two trucks that were in the initial crash were transported to Canyon Hospital in Hope B.C. The driver of the third truck was uninjured. The Calgary man in the second truck succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. His name is not being released pending permission from his family.

Both north and southbound lanes are completely blocked and it is anticipated that Highway 1 will remain closed until approximately noon on Tuesday.

While the primary investigation indicates that weather and road conditions may be causal factors in this collision, all three commercial vehicles will undergo mechanical inspections by Inspectors of the Provincial Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit. The Fraser Valley Traffic Services, the Office of the Provincial Coroner and the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Section are continuing their investigation.

^ LMAO. too bad there weren't pics of the accident, not that I want to see anything involving the body of the trucker, but a three truck pile up is pretty serious.
