The phone is of the newer generation, pre-loaded with Android 2.2 (Froyo). You can tell from the little blue dot on the sticker. I have had no issues with the newer generations of SGS', they work great and even better when combined with the large variety of custom ROMs available on the internet.
** It's worth noting GingerBread (Android 2.3) just got leaked for this phone. Though many 2.2 roms match 2.3, within a week or two from now 2.3 will be blazing with more features.
