So I just swapped my car battery and lets just say, its as ghetto of an install as I can think of.

I went to a bunch of shops today looking for a battery for my car. Went to all the bigger parts stores I know basically, and none of the batteries I found in my price range seemed to be very close to the original dimensions (Fucking Panasonic).

So anyways, I bought the closest one I could find that was actually suggested for my car and let me tell you... Theres no way this lasts long...

- The positive terminal is to small for the clip, connector thing to get tight enough on so I stuck a paper clip in there to make it stay (funny that the negative terminal fit no problem).

- Had to chop up the battery jacket thing so that the cables could clip on

- Had to raise the battery 4 inches in order for it to clamp it down, which I achieved by sticking a piece of a 2 x 4 under the battery, and even with that I'm almost positive I'm not hooking up to the right thing. It's tight but when I look at what its hooking on to, it just doesnt seem right.

Anyways, Im taking bets. How long does the car go without dying on me?

The poll results so far are making me a little more confident. Drive to work was no problem, which is good. Car started perfectly as well.

It should be fine. The important part is to pick a battery with the correct stats for your car. that's all that matters.

Crappy Tire has recommendations in their catalog, just keep close to those and your are safe.

What kind of car?

Speed 6. I followed the catalog at Wal Mart the only thing that sketches me out is that everyone treats the MS6 like a regular 6 when its got a completely different set up. Top mount intercooler, the turbo, different drivetrain :S

how much was the dealer charging for a battery(genuine OEM)?

Not sure what made u not wanna spend money on it when it probably would of been a 20 dollar diff.

Dealer didn't have it in stock and I needed my car the next day. Also I didn't think that it would be as bad as it was.

Dude, you should have went to Pick N Pull, they have certified & tested batteries for $20 in a variety of sizes. The one I got from there has lasted me the last 5 years, and its still extremely strong. :dunno: Not too sure why people insist on buying them brand new if they can get a used one for 1/4 the cost, while its tested, along with a 90day warranty.

if I were you i'd get the dealership to order one and replace the one in there as soon as you can. A quick google search says guys are running size 35 in their cars.

Not sure if this is MS3 or MS6 sizing but I found:

Size----L-------W---------H
24F---10 3/4---6 13/16---9
26R---8 3/16---6 13/16---7 3/4
34----10 1/4---6 13/16---7 7/8
35----9 1/16---6 7/8-----8 7/8
75----9 1/16---7 1/16----7 11/16
78----10 1/4---7 1/16----7 11/16

as the compatible sizes. Your under battery spacer is fine but I don't like the idea of the paperclip, you are going to get bad connectivity.

Guys are also saying optimas fit quite well (with a MS6 i wouldn't expect you would be concerned about pricing...)

Yeah the optima is fuckin expensive though. I was going to grab one.
