Anyone know where to buy these things locally? I have been reading that body recomposition diet by Lyle McDonald and in that he mentions that active individuals should use that to measure their body fat percentage. For others he provides a simple BMI calculating process but he stresses quite a lot that active individuals not use that method.

So just looking if I can buy the fat calipers somewhere locally so that I don't have to wait by getting them online. I looked online they seem to be fairly inexpensive.

Yeah, BMI is very misleading for muscular individuals.

A friend bought one at Samsons, it was the biggest piece of shit i have ever seen, i could estimate better body fat then what that thing was reading.

So my suggestion, fork over a pretty penny for a good one or just concentrate on cutting weight and ull see the difference.

Any reason why you couldn't use "regular" calipers and throw the measurements into the equations? From what I can tell the fancy body fat calipers just have an equation worked into the scale. So a guy with a set of calipers, a ruler and a calculator could come up with the same numbers pretty fast.

I mean if there isn't anything decent locally, I can always get something online.

Saw a couple on bodybuilding.com, these one seems decent enough

Here's another one, it's digital. Little bit more money and that video seems to show like it's decent. It has good review with a rating of 8 out of 10.

That one looks more promising, for 25 bux u cant really go wrong. Let us know if u get it and how accurate it is.

i've heard that even good ones are complete bs. I haven't used one but if it is just measuring based on skin fold that is pretty dumb.

there are two general types of fat (ie storage location), if you are just measuring skin fold you are only measuring 1 type, which means its almost useless

calipers are only as accurate as the person using them.

If you are consistent with a shitty pair of calipers you can still see the change in bf which is what is really important.

even the equation you use based on the calipers can give you a variety of %

I think I will get the digital one. I mean all I need is a rough idea, just so that I can go from there and place myself on one of the 3 diet categories Lyle McDonald lays out. Even if it's a rough idea, just the ballpark, that's all I need for now.
