Police believe a very slippery highway was the cause of a fatal accident on Highway 3 just before 9 a.m. Wednesday. 53-year old Allen Williams of Pincher Creek was killed in the accident.

RCMP were called out to the scene of a two vehicle crash west of Lundbreck. The accident was west of the Crowsnest River, at the bottom of the Lundbreck hill.

A small SUV in the east bound lane collided with a west bound truck. The driver of the truck died at the scene, while the SUV driver was treated and released from the Pincher Creek hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A witness saw the collision and told police that the east-bound SUV appeared to have lost control and spun across the lane where it collided with the truck in the west-bound lane.

At the time of the accident, the highway surface was in poor condition. It was packed with ice and snow. Traffic on the highway was delayed for two and a half hours while police conducted their investigation.
