Definitely some surprises in there. Thought fo sure that Scotland alone would bring the entire UK to number 1. Also thought we'd see the USA on there - No Rep for North America!?? We gotta step up our game here guys

Not really a big drinker, but when I get going on a streak with the right people...

(Czech/Irish) - Whats your mix? And how much do you drink?

wtf, russia is 4, and the top spot is "moldova" wtf, i had to google where the hell this country even is.

North america wouldnt even come close to making top 15, these are countries where liquor is actually FAR cheaper then normal drinks (juices, soda, etc..). For instance, in austria right now i can get a bottle of wine for 99 cents, but a bottle of orange juice is 1.60. Case closed

That's because this is per capita.

Belgium didn't make the list? And WTF is Andorra doing on it? Seriously, it's so tiny that most people likely haven't even heard of it.

The picture with Russia (presumably showing two Russian women) shows them drinking Turkish beer instead of vodka, which strikes me as odd...

It's per capita, and in liters of 100% alcohol.

Drinking a 6-pack of 5.5% is "less" than drinking a 6 pack of 7%. So Belgium probably consumes more beverages, but with less alcohol in them.

Here's the full list on Wiki

Props to South Korea for representing Asia!

As for myself, I'm Czech/Scottish/German and people have said I drink a fair amount... Not nearly as much as my brother though. :dunno:

Most medical reports say that 1 or 2 drinks per day max. Found this interesting site...based on some studies they have a drinking limits chart. According to this, you can really pound them back without too much risk....

Ah, the wikipedia link...that helps. Looking at the world map, and the countries in black really stand out -- Ireland, Luxembourg, Hungary, Moldova, Uganda (wtf?)...

Good chart...so me drinking an average of 500 ml of beer a day is within the "healthy drinking" level :)

The bottom row ("alcohol abstinence") is really useful  ...so alcohol abstinence means no alcohol at all? Not a single drink?

An article from the UK about how the recommended daily intake limits are useless.
Article (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/article2697975.ece)
Interesting point in the article, "One (study) found that men drinking between 21 and 30 units of alcohol a week had the lowest mortality rate in Britain. Another concluded that a man would have to drink 63 units a week, or a bottle of wine a day, to face the same risk of death as a teetotaller" (person who does not drink at all)

Thats 21 pints of stella in a week to have the same mortality rate as someone who does not drink at all. Woa. PARTY TIME!

3 drinks a day and he quite cold turkey and nearly died? I call 100% BS. Hell, doctors will TELL you to drink a glass or two a day to be healthy.

Wow. Glad he is feeling better. But 3 beer a day does not seem like much...hope there were no other factors that caused his illness. Everyone is different for sure but 3 a day is not much. Check out this article, dude is commiting to consuming nothing but 4 pints of beer a day for lent like monks used to do. A doctor has given it an ok and will be monitoring him to be safe.
Story (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504784_162-20041680-10391705.html)
I would think that if 3 beer a day could cause a seizure the doctor would have told him not to do it.
