Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. Vizio has been getting good reviews from CNET and Gizmodo but wondering if anyone has one?

Its actually $1160ish at NE Costco.

Worth pulling the trigger?

I was just at costco the other day, I'm not sure it looked as good as some others near it. Definitely a good price, but one thing that I noticed, is it's fucking HUGE. As in it's 5.5" in depth!

I'm also looking for a tv and am unsure what to get.

Lol I guess not then. Perhaps I'll go back and look again. So hard to pick a tv for that price range.

Ya they don't have this at the south Costco, I went there this afternoon. Looks like I'll go up to the NE one tomorrow to check it out.

The south one now has a Samsung 46" LED-LCD w/ blu-ray player for $999, not a bad deal.

I have a Vizio 32". Works great. Sound + colors are not as great as my Toshiba, but for the price its good.

If your going to spend 1150ish on a vizio, you may as well spend 1300 on a better brand though. Unless you absolutely have to have it now and that's all you can afford.

FS/BB have some awesome deals on TV's this week.

I don't think you can find a "better brand" 55" LED-LCD TV for $1300. But I'd be pleased if you proved me wrong.

If your looking for a good deal then Vizio is definitely the way to go. They sell a good tv and don't charge an arm and a leg for it.

Vizio's higher end stuff is actually pretty good, their lower end stuff is average. If it's just a TV for the living room or whatever, and you don't really care, it will be fine. If it's for a dedicated theater I'd look elsewhere.

I have a 47" vizio that i bought a couple years ago reason why i bought it was because it was cheaper and made of the same components as a Samsung just assembled in the States. I haven't had any issues besides the speakers started producing a low pitch buzz when i was moving to a different house a year ago. i end up getting surround sound and took care of the situation. That said I don't think i would purchase another one just because more reliable brands have gone down in price. When i was going to get my taxes done at sears last week i saw 46" Samsung's for $849 they were most likely LCD's instead of LED's I wasn't paying that much attention but definitely worth a look.

How does it compare to this Phillips? Having trouble finding reviews on it.

I would put Phillips way below Vizio based on general reviews. I dont think my eye can see it but the Phillips has a quicker response time ( 2 vc 8 ms) but lower contrast (130,000 vs 1,000,000)

Almost $400 more tho

^^^ Advertised contrast ratios mean literally nothing, FYI.

If the TV isn't going into a critical viewing environment, 99% of the population wouldn't be able to tell the difference between most TVs out there (properly set up) without some serious side-by-side comparison in a controlled environment.

A store is about the worst place to do side by side comparisons, but unfortunately there is little choice to do it any other way.

LOL, those specs are both full of shit.

It is not possible for a TV to actually have a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It's all marketing bull shit.

A contrast ratio is the difference between black and white, to measure dynamic contrast ratio (which is what all the manufacturers push) they measure the black level of the TV when it's OFF and then they put the backlight on max, the contrast and brightness on max and send the TV an full white image then measure that as the whites.

It means nothing for real world use.

The proper way to measure it would be to have black and white squares throughout the TV at the same time and measure the difference between them, sadly even these numbers get fudged from the factory and are not reliable.

In reality a legitimate 1000:1 contrast ratio would be pretty much perfect, the average movie theater is 500:1... If the contrast ratio is 10.000:1 or higher it's pure marketing bull shit.

edit: I fully agree with what Mitsu's post above me says, I just hit reply before he made his post. What he said is 100% correct.

I've got a 24" screen in my room and I'd love to upgrade it to a 32" LED panel... but I already have a Samsung 6-series 52" in the living room which I'm certain is better than the Philips 55" in all aspects except the extra 3" of screen real estate.

Is this still $1160ish? I was hoping to go tonight but ran out of time, I'm going to go check it out tomorrow night. The sale from visions isn't all that great. I think LCD (CCFL) have as good a picture as LED really so we'll see.

FYI It's $1186 for the tv and they have lots. So many that it's odd the south one doesn't have it, although I didn't check there in the past few days.

It looked okay in the store, I'm not sure they run an hdmi input to the tvs, so I'll see how it is tomorrow when I finally get it hooked up and I'll report back.

Visions has a 120hz LCD 55" for $898 and I walked in and it looks alright... especially at that price

However Futureshop also has a 55" LG w/ the same type of specs for $999 which is only a hundred bucks more...

Lol sorry, I have it out of the box, too lazy and busy so far to actually plug anything in to it. I only have 1 shaw box so I need to move my WDTV Live upstairs to play something on it.

BTW the south costco one has this TV now :banghead:

I think it looks good. The 120hz is decidedly different than my 4 year old sony 60hz. Lighting levels seem okay, I put on Avatar for a few minutes, looks good. Then watched a mad men, 720p, looks nicer and sharper than my old Sony.

I'm not tv expert at all, but I think the tv is a good value. For the price for the size, there's not much that's cheaper really in LED LCD. I think I'll keep it.
