I remember a few years ago Pontiac had something like in development and I thought it was the greatest thing ever! Go BMW!

Utes are have been there since the 30s.

We probably would get the Holden Ute as G8 Carmino if Pontiac didn't fold.

I'd trade my F-150 for one.

That's pretty tight. :D

I would have looked at the Pontiac version if it ever came to be. I don't think the BMW version would be anywhere near my price range.

Looks like no one bothered to read the link

A BMW spokesperson has confirmed to Road & Track that the M3 Pickup recently spotted testing at the Nürburgring is not headed for production. “BMW M did indeed create the pick-up seen on the ’Ring, but it was just an internal project, not something that is in development,” explained Dave Buchko, BMW Advanced Powertrain & Heritage Communications Manager. “There are no plans to produce it.”

The strange-looking prototype likely struck fear into the hearts of BMW fans everywhere. Powered by a high-revving V-8 engine, the M3 can be ordered as a coupe, convertible or sedan. But the idea of a pickup bed slapped onto the back of BMW’s iconic M car seemed a serious stretch, both in terms of serial production and sanity.

So if you were dreaming about someday owning an M3 Pickup (or if the thought gave you nightmares), you can now officially forget about the car/truck arriving in a BMW showroom.

I wouldn't trust that Bimmerpost was contacted by BMW officials on a prototype. I'll believe that news when SCOTT26 posts on that Bimmerpost claim.

I think the concept is pretty sweet, would definately consider buying one.

When does the next gen M3 come out ?

As it has been stated, this is not a concept but just a mere project.

The next gen M3 won't come out for a long time, IIRC it will be late 2014. It also will not be powered by a NA V8, but a twin-turbo V6.

I highly doubt a BMW would ever have a V6.

Nah, he meant V6. Only BMW geeks know that BMW sticks to a straight 6 because of the harmonic balance that is inherent in the design.

A V6 in a BMW is blasphemy. lol ;)

I guess I should go back and say "potentially" and add all of the other rumors haha.

But yeah I do agree that since they are going down to a 6 cylinder in the F30/F32 M3, that it should be a I6, but I cannot find the post/article link where Segler(?) was talking about about the possible engines going into the next gen M3.

I think rumors and speculation went from TT I6, TT V6, and Single-Turbo I6 ("S55) based off the current N55.

I know BMW enthusiasts feel they have everything figured out based on BMW's roots and everything, but I wouldn't be surprised at all with the way they are just pumping out every possible car they can.

- EDIT -

Found the article. I guess it is pretty old (2009), but yeah, who knows. So many rumors about BMW looking at an "all new" engine for the 2014 M3, but then you got people like SCOTT26 say they are just going to tweak the N55 into a "M" engine. I rather them create a whole new engine to make the M3 a little more unique and not just a tuned N55 that you can get in today's 3-series and probably in the F30/F32 340, or whatever they are calling the 335 sucessor now.

Actually, I think they were going to bring this thing over from Australia, Holden Ute:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/59/2006_Holden_VZ_Ute_Thunder_S_01.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Ute

Similar to how the GTO was a re-badged Holden.

Top Gear did a review I think, it seemed pretty bad ass.

My favorite was the E46 m3 touring, such a cool concept. Surprised it didnt at least come out in europe.
