Hey guys. I graduated Petroleum Engineering last april, was not a lot of jobs out there so I started working with a service company. Its not really what I want to be doing. I would like to work in Calgary doing engineering work.

I know its more of "who you know" not "what you know" but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions on how I could get my self started. I have checked out websites like infooil which I have seem some guys suggest in past threads. Thanks.

Check out YPE - I think it stands for Young Professionals in Energy. I've made some good contacts by attending their networking events before.

how about the universities job board? or go to career services? maybe the internship office would know some employers.

I am also looking to get my foot in the door at any O&G company. Currently taking petroleum land administration at SAIT, have experiences in sales and in financial institutes. Does anyone know any place thats hiring or can refer me to someone? I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

Put in a couple years in the service sector. Petroleum Engineering is going to be hot: My thread about Petroleum Jobs Outlook (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/330128/oilpatch-faces-human-resources-shortfall-article/)

I found that in the corporate offices, its more about proving yourself and getting noticed by someone who can give you a break. Take any entry level job in your field at any of the big 5 O&G and put your hours in. You only need 1 break to move to the group/job you want...

Problem is, how do you get that first job with an O&G company:confused:

Yeah, that's how you get your foot in the door, do your time in the field.
There are new grad position at the Calgary office, but not very many. If you are having a tough time getting one of those, accept that fact, and get your ass out to the field.
