View Full Version : WTB: This exact dell keyboard and mouse - free or really cheap for a prank

I am going to play a prank on a coworker and for the prank I am going to use a heat gun to melt a keyboard and mouse that is identical to theirs (or as close as I can get).

I am hoping somebody has one of these keyboards laying around collecting dust (broken or dirty is fine as it will be melted) and is willing to give it away for free:

And one of these mouses:

If anybody has a second identical keyboard laying around I have a second idea for a prank that will need another keyboard that matches.

Since this is just for a prank I'm hoping somebody has some broken or otherwise non-functional (spilled coffee / pop in them) hardware to donate to a potentially hilarious cause. If not I could throw in $5 or so, but I don't really want to spend more than that on a random prank.

that keyboard is distributed with all new dell computers, so there should be lots around, however, it's actually a very nice low profile keyboard, so people may not be willing to part with them... but good luck.

ask the IT there?

Already hit up our IT guy, we just threw out a bunch of them a couple of weeks ago apparently. They are super common and so tons of people spill stuff in them and since they are so cheap it is easier to just replace the keyboards than to clean them I was told.

I was hoping somebody else would have one or more keyboards available, possibly full of spilled stuff or otherwise dead (a couple of ours had USB issues).

The mouse is less critical, I'm more interested in getting 2 keyboards than the mouse, but if I can get a mouse to melt that would just complete the prank :D

The second keyboard is to fill with some dirt and plant grass seed in, then put near my window and bring it in once it has grown to 3-4 inches tall in case you were wondering.

I already checked through kijiji and I can't find any cheap ones on there (or there are no pics of them listed if they are on there). I hit up EBay, apparently I can buy 10 of them and ship them to canada for ~$50, but that is too much and too many keyboards. Although, it does tempt me to do something like smash one with a sledgehammer violently in the office every time I get mad at one.

I considered hitting up a computer recycler but I don't really know any that would be allow me to take stuff other people have brought to recycle. Does anybody here work at a recycler and has some of these that are dead?

theres a relatively new and unheard of site called "Kijiji". You can find almost anything on there check it out: www.kijiji.com

This is what 48 seconds of my time got me!

I think it'd be funnier if you pulled off all the keys and glued them back on so they don't press down. Take the mouse apart and glue the wheel in place.

Or what a guy at work did to me, plug in another mouse and keyboard to his computer, run a long USB extension cable back to your desk and every few minutes bump the mouse so it moves right across his screen. Or while he's typing an email, hit some keys so it types out garble.

there's a much easier way to do this, wireless :)

you can have 2 mice plugged in to the same pc and they will not conflict, so they can just be working away, while you have your logitech nano receiver int he back of their computer (so small you'd never see it if you weren't looking for it)

then just move it around a bit while they're working, totally trips them out for a bit, i have done that one before.

These machines have built-in bluetooth so I already have considered input hijacking. it is on the to-do list but I haven't decided who to do it to. Some people here are VERY good about locking their workstations which makes it hard to pull pranks like that on them, hence the melted keyboard :)

legendboy, I would really appreciate it if you had that mouse to spare. And if anybody else has one or two of those dell keyboards to give away it would be awesome.

if you use a logitech 2.4 mouse with the nano receiver you don't need access to their PC, you just plug it in the back and it'll install it's self, the only indication they may see is the little yellow bubble that says your new hardware installed successfully.

You should change the keys so they are opposite (ytrewq).

Damn, I forgot to check this thread and ended up buying 2 keyboards from a local shop. Thanks for the offer though.

If anybody is wondering how this went down, here are some pics:
