So if cost is not a problem, do you prefer a contemporary house plan or a traditional house plan?

A mixture of both. Personally, I am not a huge fan of wide open living areas, but prefer more formal entertaining (public) spaces, and a bit of separation. Not particularly on trend, though.

See I like contemporary but hate these huge ass bare windows. Everyone can see inside, it would feel very uncomfortable to live in unless you have big blinds/drapes at night all the time. I think both have their charms but I'm a city slicker so I like apartment-type places with contemporary designs (but they need to be PRACTICAL. Looks are useless unless there is a good purpose behind it).

my favorite house styles are craftsman and mid-century modern.

Contemporary all the way.

I also think that what is considered contemporary today will age a lot better than what was considered contemporary 40 years ago. Today, modern homes have clean, simple lines and I think will look almost as good in 20 years as they do today.
