Lol, I opened the article saying No Fuckin Way..... then read the real point of it and went ooooh right.

Interesting article though, good to see that there is investment.

China is a super power. Their money will pave the way for their cleanliness, not day to day tasks.

I'd like to see the chart in order by % of green energy over total energy consumed. simple.

not one based on total money spent (biggest countries obviously win) and not one based on guessing at the effort put it and carbon produced.

For all of you reading inhibited individuals:

The authors also pointed out that (China) in 2009 overtook the US as the nation with the most installed clean energy capacity.

That means the US is #2 and China is #1.

What a horrible title I haven't read the rest of the comments but China is investing the most into clean energy because China has to invest in clean energy. It has some of the most polluted places on earth because unlike most of the rest of the world they have done absolutely nothing to prevent pollution for the last 65 years.

LOL.... You guys. It's pretty significant that China is investing more than the US, for several reasons. One, their GDP is much lower. 2, they are not as reliant on foreign oil, and have yet to BOMB someone to buy dirty resources.

Since you like to play these games, not that they are relevant, guess where THESE PLACES are??

Chinese Air Pollution Deadliest in World, Report Says
Kevin Holden Platt in Beijing, China
for National Geographic News
July 9, 2007

China, the world's fastest growing economy, has earned another startling superlative: the highest annual incidence of premature deaths triggered by air pollution in the world, according to a new study.

A World Health Organization (WHO) report estimates that diseases triggered by indoor and outdoor air pollution kill 656,000 Chinese citizens each year, and polluted drinking water kills another 95,600

First off, the worst of the US is not nearly as bad as the worst of China. Second, GDP is practically irrelevant when you have a billion potential new members of an emerging middle class. As alloroc pointed out, their investment in clean energy is out of absolute and overwhelming necessity, not good will and care for the environment, as you would like to believe. Third, China has no problem reaping the benefits of war with lucrative oil contracts in Iraq and plenty of shady deals and bribes in Afghanistan. Who do you think is the single biggest investor in these war torn countries at the moment? It's enough to give an avid conspiracy theorist like you a massive hard-on, if only it didn't contradict your agenda.

Not to mention how they're weaseling their way into Africa and helping to perpetuate the resource and corruption curse there. China's hungry for energy, and whatever they can get their hands on. They're also investing big into oil & gas, coal, hydro, and nuclear. Who bought into Syncrude, and signed natural gas and oil sands JV deals with Encana and Penn West, respectively? That would be Chinese state-owned companies.

China doesn't care about renewable energy for fluffy environmental reasons, they just need energy, period.

Renewables are going to be a bigger part of the mix into the future, it makes sense to diversify.
