An F1-like style of racing, Sounds like a terrible plan to me.

What's wrong with creating a new racing series for electric? No one is saying get rid of gas, just creating a new race.

I can't fathom it.

I think its a great idea. I am a huge fan of F1, and I think having a similar league but all electric would be intense. YES YES - they sound different then an internal combustion engine, but they would destroy in Monaco! This would also be a huge leap for technology. The car would have to be designed to use as little battery as possible. Regenerative braking would be huge. Photovoltaic coatings to get extra power. Cars that are in collisions are far more durable, and damaged parts are easily replaced in the pits. I think it would end up being very popular. It might end up even being aired in the US! (well maybe I'm getting carried away there :D )

Anyway, frickin great idea. It's one of those inevitable things - so why not start thinking about it now?

Have you ever raced a electric go kart?? Well after 10-15mins it starts to slow down. Then you have to change into a fully charger go kart then after ten 15 mins you repeat. I don't think they have the technology to do one lap at those speeds to have a full race maybe one lap then change batteries. That will be funny changing batteries every lap or two. I didn't read the article but I think it stupid.

I don't think they are going to be racing $500 electric go-karts though. Go karts aren't exactly at the pinnacle of energy storage technology. They are going to be closer to $1,000,000 super tuned, super advanced, electric power houses - with no expense spared. There is a lot of really cool battery technology out there, with lightweight material, and dense energy storage. I would be really interested to see the advancements made when engineers must challenge themselves to build an F1 style electric car!

And all that engineering will eventually trickle down into the common car. Which is a big plus.

I might as well put a gun to my own head now.

They can pry my internal combustion engine out of my COLD DEAD HANDS.

You have a F1 car?

You have hands big enough that the engine requires prying from them?

Yes, I'm slightly off topic. It was my generalized commentary on the state of affairs with this whole green movement.
