What's you're top dividend stocks? I'm thinking the best would be mining / oil and gas / health supplies.

How do you find companies with good dividends?

Real Estate Investment Trusts will by far dominate the dividend payouts (talking 14%+). On the flip side though you will see very little in Capital Gains/Losses as prices remain extremely stable.

You will find Oil and Gas stocks generally have low dividend payouts, but they more than make up for it with capital gains in a good market.

Pick your poison. If you manage your money and have a wise exit strategy you will make money either way.

Here are some examples of REIT's

http://www.google.com/finance?q=NYSE:HTS

E.g. HTS is currently at 27.71, following the 2008 crash it's low was 17.70. Since that time, it has paid out 12.00 roughly in dividends. So, had you experienced none of the capital gains in the stock since 2008 lows (for whatever magical reason), you will still have outperformed the actual trading price by $2.00. Numbers would be so juicy if you reinvested those dividends and also experienced those same capital gains since the 2008 lows, but I'm too lazy to calc.

REIT's are an optimal strategy for a risk adjusted portfolio.

I'll second REITs. If you're looking at Canadian REITS, look at Artis REIT and RioCan.
