Galaxy s Downloading help

Hey I am having a problem with my Samsung Galaxy Vibrant Phone. It automatically started downloading an update for google maps, but now the install will not shut off. If I go into the program it closes and just adds another download. I tried restarting my phone, clearing all running applications and tried uninstalling google maps; however, it will only let me uninstall the updates not the actual program. Does any one have any ideas how to stop the download or how to completely remove google maps from the phone?

you won't be able to uninstall google maps from the phone unless rooted.

google maps should only update if you go into the market place.

i would recommend using wifi > go into Market and get it updated.
