I bought an 86 Honda Accord on Monday. the previous owner told me it needed a clutch so I went to put one in and the mechanic told me the tranmission is gone. Anybody know where I can get one done for cheap? either rebuild mine or put a used one in, and how much it would cost me roughly? Thanks.

You MIGHT be able to find one in the junkyard...If not, it's going to cost a lot.

Check out junkyards for sure. If you have the equipment you can do a rebuild yourself, but you need a lot of specialty tools. I have rebuilt a couple transmissions and done them for about $250 in parts.

But your best bet is going to be to go used.

Hey I don't really have much knowledge with all of this, but I've heard that it is illegal to knowingly sell a car to someone when you know something is wrong with it. I don't know how far you can take this, but if he said it needs a new clutch and it really needs a new transmission then you might look into holding the previous owner accountable for that.

Just a thought, but it could have been a scam, you never know.

Did the bill of sale say as is??every used car probably has something wrong with it.
I was told once that if you told someone that something is wrong, and they believe you are mechanically knowledgable about the subject, then you can be held liable if the problem turns out to be something else..
Pick a part and bucks have transmissions.
