Hey guys, I've been looking at these and had a couple of questions.

What do you guys think of these? Were there any known problems with these at all? How's the maintenance? A fun car to own?

I might be able to trade it with my 350z, would that be a good move? I realize I'll lose all the mods and everything that I've done to the Z, which kind of makes me feel sad, but would it be a smarter choice to make?

Anything in general I should know about the car?

Personally, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Faster car, sharper handling, and BMW engineering. I prefer the look (never been a huge fan of the bathtub styling of the 350z).

The Bimmer fanboys will be able to provide more insight as to the specific things to look for, or general issues to know about...

I would think parts would be a lot more expensive. I like your Z car more myself

I saw that thread but am kinda wanting to see the two compared. If my car was stock I wouldn't have even thought about it twice before doing it. But the fact that it took me a lot to get it where I wanted it to be is making me think twice. But then I guess if it was stock no one would want to trade anyway.

The guy hasn't said yes or anything but is interested since he asked for more details. Which got me thinking, would I actually do this? M3's have always been my favorite cars, the E46's especially and infact what I have wanted for the longest time. So no idea why I am confused now, guess am a little attached to my car.

M3 has about 93000 km's and mine is sitting at 43000 miles. So about 20 or so less than the M3.

Have you driven an m3 BMW before?

It being one of your favorite cars I would do it in a heartbeat, the German car cliche of "German engineering" is no joke. The whole fit and finish, performance (handling, smooth as hell n/a engine), and entire package is just unbeatable in that price range.

That being said I'm biased because my favorite car is an e36 m3. I've never owned a 350 so I can't compare maintenance and modding costs with you, but in general there are cheap BMW parts and there are expensive BMW parts, similarly how there are cheap and expensive Nissan, Acura, Honda, etc parts it's all the same in the end.

Deffinitely tempted, not gonna lie. Never driven one before, would like to offcourse.

Although would you still pick the m3 if you had another option of a 1999 Porsche Carrera convertible? Just a little high in the km side with 160K.

I would take the M3 over a 1999 Porsche with 160km.

I have zero knowledge of BMW's but I think the BMW you posted looks better then your Z. Also if you do sell your Z do you have the stock parts? You could return it to stock and sell the mods your bought.

Buy a 2003.5+ if you are going to get one.

Why is that Benyl?

2003.5 and newer had the engine recall done at the factory. 2001-2003 cars got the recall at the dealer.

The M3 is a 50x better car. The Z is very entry level and I hate the interior.

My friend has one, honestly it isnt too fast, you will get bored quickly..
My brother has a audi S4 TT. and its better in every aspect, except reliability.. I honestly think the Z is a horribly design exterior wise.

Really? You would just bored of it quickly?

Maybe if you already own a car very significantly faster than it yes.

Or maybe you just don't know how to have fun in a "slow" car...

the 350z is a decent car, but it is brutal for re-sale ,often i see other owners sitting on theirs at $13,000 for a while and then they some times go for $9000!!...in that sense, if the guy would do a straight up trade, i would not even think about hesitating lol

I love both these cars but I think the M3 wins for me, its just so much smoother and feels like it is built to a much higher standard.

I dont think you will get bored..

I love my M3, but i agree with benyl get a 2003.5+

you don't wanna deal with all the problems that the earlier years have.

i say go for the M3!!! :bigpimp:

I really like them, as I stated earlier always been one of my favorite cars and always wanted to own one. But that clown of a guy hasn't gotten back to me after his initial email. So who knows even if it's going to go down?

Either way my plan was whenever I sell my car, I'll add some more money and get a newer year E46. But for that plan I might have to wait for a while.

Matter of opinion... I still turn my head when I see a clean E46 M3 drive by.

Yes but was made up to 2007... hence the new M3 (E90) was made 2 years ago...

I prefer the look of E46's over E90's. So eventually even if i have to buy one I'd be looking for a 2006-2007 E46.

No such thing as a 07 E46 M3, no such thing as even an 07 E46.

Theres no differnt between 03.5 to 06... why the hell would you pay more for the same shit???

And yes, the car is definitately dated.

you pay more for ideally a lower KM car that will not eat you alive on maintenance, which on a M3 is steep.

They are expensive cars to own, but great cars to drive and insane $$$$ cars to mod.

and to the others 2006 was the last year of the e46 M3 and 2008 was first year of the E9x M3.

Umm it came out mid to late 2008 and right now its early 2011. So give or take, 2.5 years. But thanks for coming out.

I don't think the E46 M3 looks outdated. Its the E46 non-m3's that look outdated.
