I need to purchase a softball bat this year, and am a little ashamed that I have never bought one before.

I willing to spend ~$140 for one, and I know they get a lot higher than that in price.

Are there any good bats in this price range? any places I should stop and check out?

First a thread on guns... now on baseball bats... as your attorney, I advise your to think before you post.

This one's way out of your range, and is out of production now (but they're locally made and sold, and there might still be a few around) called the Jak'd Hammer. I was cracking dingers with that thing, so it's pretty sick.

It's also not legal in some leagues, so you'll have to check the league rules before using it. I think it goes in the $300 range

Save up and pick up a Miken Freak DST; $329 at Sport Chek.
Too much? Check out a Miken Velocit-E on sale for $149 at Sport Chek

You have to break them in first-a couple of hundred hits. And be sure to rotate the bat as you hit-there is no sweet spot like a wooden bat.
Both are NSA approved so you shouldn't have any problems.

A guy on our old beer league team had some bat made by Jak'd and it was dope. If you got it in the sweet spot, doesn't matter how big of a guy you were, it would go for miles. I got a homer while about 8 beers deep one game so there's got to be something to it

I cracked a couple too and that says a lot about the bat

Man, my strategy is to use a crappy bat. Couple that with my crappy swing and I'm the guy dropping it just behind the second baseman all night. Any more power, and the fielders would get me out easily.
