What's the difference between this and a normal Boxster? What's the Boxster Spyder? They're both soft top convertibles...

What am I missing here.

This model is to the boxster line essentially what the GT3 is to the 911 line. Lighter weight, a bit more power. Soft top is not powered, thus saving plenty of weight but making it not ideal for a DD.

So much hate for the Boxster, never really understood it.. Drive one and then tell me you dislike it for any reason except the fact everyone says "It's not a 911"

Well there are alot of stigmas. As it is the entry level porsche, it is a hairdresser's car, not a true porsche etc. It is nowhere near what say the 914 was many years ago, but it is still an excellent car and whenever it is compared against its rivals it always does very well. The 911 just overshadows it though as that is the classic porsche, and for the ones who find it girly etc, there is always the cayman which comes close in terms of performance compared to the carerra, but will obviously never surpass it.

Sweet thanks for the link! When everyone was referring to the Boxster vs the Boxster Spyder, I thought they meant the Cayman and the Boxster, and that no one knew what they were talking about. I didn't know a more hardcore boxster existed, that's awesome. I played around with one of the new Boxsters the other night, I guess it couldn't have been the Spyder, that thing would have destroyed me haha.

If one were to want a current Porsche in cabriolet form, I honestly think the Boxster S is the best solution. It's the only car since the 550 that Porsche has built as a convertible. 911 cabs are more pointless.

Not to mention all the modern 911 cabs looks like hunchbacks.

IMO the rear decklid on the Spyder completely transform the car into something a thousand times better looking.
