Well, it looks like the D3 beta is going to go up sometime this summer, according to a blue post on the Blizz D3 forums. Make sure your battle.net accounts are updated to show you want to participate in betas! Although I think, honestly, the first round will most likely be for last year's Blizzcon beta cards and a few select invitees from D2 mp or some such.

Knowing how Blizz operates, if they go for the latest announced date, September 30, 2011, and take a 6 month beta period, that would put D3 as a Q1-2012 game at the earliest.

I was really disappointed with SC2... with all the crazy hype behind it, the game was simply boring and repetitive. I stopped playing after a couple months, which is insane, cause I played war3 for 8 years.

D3 doesn't even look that great IMO. Looks to be the same thing is dungeon siege 3, which is coming out right away.

Im REALLY disappointed with SC2 as well. And again coming from someone who played War3 for MANY MANY MANY years.

The game itself is great. But such a short campaign. Not to mention battle.net is nothing more than join 5 games, maybe 1 of them wont drop someone and ruin the game. Waste of time.

Dunno if I'm going to buy the expansions just for the single player campaign, or if I'm even going to bother with D3 anymore. Especially if after 12 years, this is the best they can do... Not to mention, since Blizzard got a taste of real money with WoW, everything is based more on making money, than producing good games. Something Blizzard was quite the opposite on prior to being bought by Activision.

Anywhoo, i really enjoyed the single player SC2, and i dont get these disconnect issues you have on battle.net... so im fairly happy.

D3 will be good if they make it balanced. In D2, only 2, maybe 3 character classes could solo hell mode, and only a sorc or hammerdin could do any sort of crowd control. Maybe the odd druid or assassin if built flawlessly with ideal items, which only about 1% of people could reasonably get. Amazons and barbs were MUCH slower killing stuff, even with the best items in the game.

Sorcs were also the only class that could do well with virtually no items. All other classes needed godly items and + skills to even come close to the crowd control abilities of a sorc.

Another thing that sucked were the utterly useless skills. Each character had maybe 4 or 5 skills that were worth getting, and the rest were garbage. I'd like to see every skill on the skill tree useful, so people could have very diversified builds.

Lastly, D2 turned into a game of "runs". People just did bloody runs and baal runs for items or ultra fast exp. There was really no point in playing.

Basically, I'd just like to see proper balancing so that any class is equally as viable for crowd control and soloing.

"Builds" ... you realize there is no stat point or attribute points anymore right? Least none that the players control. Everybody that plays the same class have the same abilities that are the same strengths :( There won't be builds anymore.

Edit: Also the classes for diablo 3 are sorta lame... least to me. I miss warriors/paladins. I liked the rogues/amazons. It'd be nice if they had rangers or something.... not a fan of the look of monks or barbarians. The witch doctor looks interesting mechanics wise, but visually he looks like he has parkinsons... bring me back the necromancer. The Demon Hunter is going to be the love child that everybody will want to play in this. And wizard is well... the wizard. Probably the only class that doesn't really make me cringe other than its vanilla flavor of being just that: a stereotypical wizard... but then again, I did say I miss the warrior/paladin type classes ;)

You're more likely to see little to no late game soloing this time around. You will have classes dedicated to certain roles and they're stuck with them.

To be honest I think the fact that you could solo endgame in D2 wasn't intended, Blizz just didn't see a need in fixing it by the time it happened. That's just a guess though.

I really hope they will be able to at least somewhat control bots in D3. If they can't then the economy will be ruined in the first month. Mind you, it is hard to deter this type of behaviour, but you think by now a company would have developed a really good anti-hacking software. I hope D3 caters to those casual players as well, because I won't have 8+ hours a day to play it like I know some people will.

Anyone hear anything about a subscription? I thought I remember reading an article a while back that said they were thinking of putting one in, but that was a while ago... If they do, I would only pay if we got a butt load of additional content, otherwise I would not pick it up.

I hope the PVP system is good as well. Hopefully better than D2, as in arenas and whatnot (which I have seen videos of so far). And stat tracking would be nice too.

Here's the kicker, even if your auction doesn't sell, you still had to pay the listing fee (which is real money) that blizzard gets a small profit from. So say I grind a few dungeons one night and get Uber Awesome sauce sword of the Whales and list it for $10. I can sure as shit bet some chinese farming company will be stalking the auction house and will list it for 9.99... or 9.95, etc to constantly under cut the real players. So they will stalk my auction to the point of me not being able to ever sell it , and having to pay money out of my pocket to list it.

Fuck that. I have very little intrigue with the future of blizzard, there are plenty of other amazing companies out there and better games. Guild wars 2 looks to be a game that is leaps and bounds above the quality of diablo 3 and thats the product ill buy.

I kind of like the idea of an AH, and the idea that farmers may just drive down prices, which in turn allows us casual gamers to get the good items with (hopefully) little out of pocket expense. I would not mind buying godly items for a couple dollars, in order to save the hours (or days) of mfing it would take to find it.

I just hope that jsp is still used somewhat because I have 4,025 fg on my account right now that I hope to use for D3 :D

Maybe I'm shortsighted, but I don't see what the big ruckus is about the auction house. The game is much less multiplayer focused than WOW, so it's not like you'd see these items on everyone everywhere all the time. Plus, it's not like these items will just be there for the buying - there's still a random element of scarcity involved (you still have to go out and FIND these items before you can sell them). And with how random items were in D2 (and should be in D3) it's not going to be easy to get the "best" thing in the game.


Besides, the key piece of fun in Diablo is finding this stuff for yourself, in a random drop. I won't be tempted in the least to buy an item with real money, because what's the point? I'd much rather go find it myself.

To be fair, everybody gets a handful of free listings every (I think) week. It's not like you're forced to pay to use the RMAH.

Also, rares are now supposed to be able to be much better than uniques (or the equivalent to runewords), there will theoretically be perfect items but they'll be ridiculously hard to get. You'll have to roll the perfect item type, then the perfect mods, then the perfect numbers within those mods.

It might suck, it might be awesome, I'm reserving judgment until I actually play.

TL2 does look pretty interesting but it doesn't have the more realistic dungeon feel that Diablo has been known to give.

I'm waiting until I can try it out to pass judgement on any aspect of the game.

You seen any of the D3 game play videos? Blizzard has steered the diablo franchise away from the "realistic dungeon feel" , and more into the direction of WoW style graphics.

Diablo 3's graphics are just very smoothed down and brighter compared to what the diablo universe used to be... christ I remember diablo 1 and getting into the catacombs and it feeling utterly gritty and dark.

That's what I said two years ago when they showed their alpha builds. But seeing that 6 min Monk gameplay video, I can see how they've tried to make it grittier and less WoW-ish. Much improved compared the witch-doctor alpha videos. One thing I do hate from the Monk video is when the enemies HP gets to zero they turn into tissue paper and ridiculous ragdoll physics kicks in (i hate that in all games actually).

Path of Exile is a nice looking Diablo clone I have to say.

I got the beta 2 days ago and have beat the beta on each character class.. ThE GAME IS SO MUCH FUN.

Things to note for multiplayer:

Loot drops are for you only.
In order for your buddies to see items drops is for you to pick up your item then trade it or drop it.
The game is voiced over for main quest lines with IN GAME CINEMATICS! Not to the extent of SWTOR though.
Difficulty increases as more people join the game.
Playing with 2 of the same class adds a cool dynamic as one person can play a support role by knocking mobs off the group/heal/buff that kinda stuff. Very cool.


Release has been delayed because of Korean Government concerns over the real money AH. Probably looking at the end of March now.

Maybe they knew the game wasn't going to be that great and they're just managing expectations.

If you're just talking sorcs, Lightning sorcs with a merc equipped with infinity runeword weapon and some pimp armor...they clean house.

A bunch of runeword gear on one of those and they do 50k damage with lightning per shot + all the minus enemy resistance aura from infinity...BAM!


A decently geared javazon with the same merc also wrecks. They 3 shot 8 player Baal in hell with 'good' gear.


Hammerdins wreck everything but magic immunes


Barbs can be badass too if you have the gear...but they are not as good as the 3 I just listed.

Just finished about 2.5 hours in the beta release with the demon hunter.

Comparable to the Amazon, some great beginning attributes such as rapid fire to mow down large groups, especially effective when using traps to slow down enemies at a bottle neck.

Was almost as easy as using a melee character as lower levels, if not better. Also a fan of the unlimited ammo and not having to carry around quivers of arrows and bolts. Plus the ability to use a shield with the one handed crossbows is nice.

Good overall character to try on release, have to try the rest soon!

My game was downloading at about 100kb/s. After doing the following (see link), my speed jumped up to about 2.5mb/s

yeah same with me. I built a new computer a few weeks ago and downloaded firefox right away, I never use IE.

Interesting but kind of boring. Good preview to what D3 will be. You can finish the game relatively quickly, max lvl being 13. Has 'achievements' that you obtain throughout the game kinda like on PS3. Contemplating on buying the collector's edition now..

What did everyone think? I tried the Monk, Demon Hunter and Wizard. I'll probably roll a Monk for the real thing, but I did enjoy blasting things with the Wizard, so I'm not sure. Did not enjoy the run and gun style of the Demon Hunter though...

Interesting but kind of boring. Good preview to what D3 will be. You can finish the game relatively quickly, max lvl being 13. Has 'achievements' that you obtain throughout the game kinda like on PS3. Contemplating on buying the collector's edition now..

I think level 13 is only the max for this open beta. Actual game goes beyond level 13.

I found it... slow. Compared to the midlevels of Diablo 2 where you were frantically clicking in 17 different directions at once, D3 to 13 on a Demon Hunter felt positively sluggish. I guess I'll have to evaluate it live when I get it a few months after release (lesson learned about Blizz games: always skip the first month, it's when all the bugs get ironed out XD)

I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST.

I found the same feeling I had with D2 that I did with D3. They haven't changed much (except minor things). Game runs well on a lot of machines. Demon hunter is a little sluggish, but I'd say that more has to do with the fact that even if you miss with an arrow, it flys back to hit a target.

DH has consistently been the worst class for me throughout the beta. The rest are a ton of fun.

I was pretty happy with the beta, it's just an updated version of D2. I wish they kept the old skill tree though. I liked it better.

I know i've been saying it since page 1, but now that i've had a chance to play the classes with the beta... I really hate the class selection in this game. I really miss classes like warrior (d1) or paladin (d2). Demon Hunter seems to try to appeal to a younger audience with the dual wielding hand crossbows and even the name itself... wish they would have kept with more popular lore / classes and added the more niche classes to things in future xpacs. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'd rather take a holy sword and fight a lord of hell vs punching one as a monk...

Demon hunter just doesn't have the same style as amazon (i find). Wish they had a "Ranger" which could dual wield melee, use a 2 hander, or use a bow/crossbow... Also D2 Necromancer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> D3 Witch Doctor.
