nissan 4 digit key number

I lost my keys for an 2005 nissan maxima and I need to get a new set. I found a locksmith who will cut me a new key but nissan wont give him the 4 digit number for my key (since its a chipped key it needs this). I was just wondering if anyone else has been through this and knows of a way to get the 4 digit number without going through nissan because the locksmith can make the key much cheaper than nissan can, not to mention nissan requires me to tow the car there as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Look in your glovebox for a sticker or if you have the vin call Nissan Canada and they will give it to you.

I usually get the code from the glovebox, but if that doesn't work....

Then go down to the dealership with your registration. Once you show proof of ownership they're usually much more co-operative.
