1) WTF is up with the Volvo S60R auto trans... My mom can't drive a manual, and I went to the Volvo dealer the other day, got a brochure...

Manual specs: 300hp 298 ft/lbs tq 0-60 5.6
Auto Specs: 300hp 256 ft/lbs tq 0-60 7.5

What's with the 2 second 0-60 difference, that's f'n terrible. The S60 T5 is quicker than 7.5. Are these numbers correct?

2) Since when has the Volvo symbol been the sign for males, has anyone noticed this??

That could be an error. Those auto trans. numbers should be around 6 sec. I had an BMW catalog on 330ci with 0-60 of 7.4 sec. Now i know the 330 will also do around 6 sec.

Mist be a mis-print !

Or may be their auto gear-box can't handle that much hp and tq ?

Anyway, it is just for your mom ! I don't think she care 6 or 7 seconds, right ? :D

But I do, because I'd drive it from time to time as well.

That torque difference of 42ft/lb worries me...

1) Yes, the 5 speed geartronic is too weak to handle the 300 ft/lbs, so torque is electronically limited.

I Have also head that the 0-100km/hr time is 2 seconds slower from Volvo, though I don't believe it. The 5 speed geartronic is adaptive with sport mode, it will pick optimal shift points and thus shift better than any manual could for pure acceleration. The torque difference should not reflect the performance difference. It may be because Volvo produced lots of manual tranny Rs and wants do discourage people from opting for the auto trans option. In any event, Volvo makes incredibly nice in-house manual gearboxes, I would take a manual T5 over an auto R.

2) The symbol is the Swedish/Nors/Viking? symbol for iron, representing strength.
It has always been thier symbol. Here is a pic of a 1927 OV4, the company's first car:

The Volvo website shows slightly different numbers:

Then why is the T5 auto quicker if it has only 248 hp and 243 ft/lbs of torque?

Because it is a FORD ! anything can happen ! :D

by they way, why Volvo ? I know it is for your mom ...but ..there are so many nicer car out there ?

Why not buy a TL instead ? (or G35) faster, nicer, and less problem !

And .. I think is cheaper too ... I never look at Ford price, but I think Ford will price the Volvo S60R more then $42K ....

S60R is 64 000, we're also looking at a bunch of Mercedes and I want her to look at the G35, but she likes the 350z better (and I can't stand it). No TL.

s60r = :drool:

imo the nicest volvo out there, same with v70r.. and the power to back it up.. it should be nice competition to all the other luxury sedans

even got the R, not for ricing, but refinement in that case
