I bought a line polarizer and I get flare like crazy:confused: . I get almost none with out it. Don't they stop flare?

it depends on where the sun is relative to the filter.

So its not a circular polarizer?

What kind of filter is it?

That's probably your problem. Good polarizers have all sorts of coatings to reduce flare and stuff.

I'd just get a good Hoya one (HMC for something?), especially since you don't need a large diameter.

Oh and you want a circular polarizer.

There's the most likely problem.

I would buy a circular polarizer from any major manufacturer.

IMO Nikon thin polarizers are some of the best, and B&H sells them for a very good price. Cheaper than some other brands too. I haven't had a single flare issue with mine yet.

A decent one from Hoya, B&W, Kenko, etc. will likely work just as well if you prefer. Just don't buy the really cheap crap.

i was curious, are the Nikon filters as easy to clean as the B&W ones? Performance/$ wise, it's hard to beat Hoya, but they are sooo hard to clean.

I've never owned a Hoya filter but I have no problem cleaning my Nikon filters. I don't really get them that dirty though. A lens pen or some ROR will remove anything you can reasonably get on a filter.

I have many Nikon NC filters and a Nikon polarizer and all of them clean up just fine from little water spots or an accidental finger print or something. I've never had anything major on my filters.

Try some ROR if you are having trouble cleaning your Hoya filters. It's good stuff to have around anyways for glasses, sunglasses, etc.

Yeah most other cleaning fluids do nothing IMO. I have Zeiss fluid and it's crap even compared to a lens pen. The ROR is different than the average cleaning solution.
