Wedding pics?

Do any of you guys do wedding pictures, or know someone who does for a good price?

From what I've researched so far, a short (3hr or so) series of pictures is going to set us back around $1600-$1800+. While I realize this is the norm, it seems a little steep for 4 hours (3 + commute) of someone's time - experienced or not.

The tentative date for our wedding is Friday August 12th, and it is to be held in Kananaskis/Canmore area.

Now, being a designer myself and my wife-to-be being an artist on the side, we kind of want the world here since we cannot settle for amateur-looking shots. Perhaps I'm being unrealistic to think we can get a better deal?

I think expecting pro level quality for that price is going to end up with you being disappointed in the results.

If you want great/unique pictures you're going to pay for it. A significant part of the cost is also the album. Most well-known talented photogs charge $3500+ for everything.

I personally think wedding pictures are largely a waste. I don't know a single person who has ever looked at their wedding pictures after the brief excitement phase immediately after being married. Maybe 1 picture in a small frame on the mantel. The albums are all collecting dust in their basements, attics, etc. I doubt I will have much say in the matter though when my time comes! haha. Obviously this is 100% personal preference.

At least I realize I might be being unrealistic. If I am, that's cool and I'd accept it. But I've only inquired with a few photographers so far, and thought maybe I was just hitting up the wrong individuals...

We are willing to cut things out to save costs - so I don't think I'm *that* far off. For example - we don't care about an actual album.... we just want the pictures on a disc. No engagement shots. We don't care about shots of the dinner/reception... just shots of the 1/2 hour ceremony, and some posed shots afterwards.

JTI is WAAAAAYYYY out of the price range.

Kevin Harley(quazimoto) is much closer, and depending on how you approach it you might be able to work something out with him. My wife and I used him for our engagement photos and wedding back in November and were really happy with the results...I can post some examples if you'd like to see.

Being that you do photography yourself and were happy with the results, one would guess they are quite good without even seeing them. Quazi: If you think you can provide what I'm looking for in my budget, feel free to PM me.

Yeah, I was on JT Images before, but the prices are just way too much for us. (Though his work is fantastic.)

I got a quote for $1800 from Chantal Milaine Photography. She has some really nice shots on her website. So I'm kinda using that as a basis at this point...
