Hey all,

I'm looking to purchase a good point to shoot camera. I'm looking to spend roughly around $400.

From what I can see online the Canon S95 is highly recommended and also the Nikon S9100 had some decent reviews as well.

If anyone owns either of these cameras, would you recommend buying it?

I'm open to all suggestions so if you have a good point to shoot camera let me know!

Thanks.

What do you hope to get out of it?

The Canon S95 is quite a bit better than the Nikon S9100.

There are also several threads where this was discussed at length if you do a quick search.

I tried doing a search all I could find was links for suggestions to DSLR cameras.

If you have some of the links handy do you mind posting them?

I'm just looking for something that will take good quality pictures, hopefully without having to screw with settings too much because I'm a camera noobie. I'm hoping as I get more advanced I can continue to use the same camera for a little while before upgrading to a DSLR.

I also noticed my friends Sony camera took alot of pictures that were blurry but I don't know if that's from not holding the camera still or what but I would like a camera that elimates that problem if there is such thing.

If your intention is to buy a P&S specifically to work up to a DSLR, then I would suggest you just buy a DSLR. They are as easy to use as a P&S (i.e. they all have full auto modes), and then you can just learn at your own pace.

If you're friend's Sony camera took blurry pictures, it was either not being used properly (i.e. shutter speed too slow) or broken.

Here are some threads for you to read. There are more - just make sure you click the "3 months and older" button when you search.

Just about every decent point & shoot camera these days has some sort of image stabilization to help eliminate camera shake introduced by the user. This is only effective with static subjects, and will not help you freeze a moving object (that goes for any camera).
