I got this email today and I do know that CRA does not send any information via email. Not gonna lie, it did startle me when it said I was being investigated for tax invasion as I have not filled my taxes yet since I don't owe them money... lol.

Just beware if you get the same email as the CRA link does go to the actual CRA web site and the number I called was a CRA agent who said this was a possible scam.

Here's the email:

Dear tax payer,

An official complaint has been filled against you and the company you are affiliated with, by using our Informant Leads Program .
The complaint contains evidence that you are directly involved in tax evasion schemes.
The mandate of the Informant Leads Program is to co-ordinate all leads that the CRA receives from informants, to determine if there is an element of non-compliance with tax legislation, and to ensure that appropriate enforcement action is taken.
Before a criminal investigation is started, you will be required to give us an official statement.
In order to do so, please visit us at the nearest CRA Informant Leads Centre in your region.
For a complete list of the our offices and for more information regarding this matter, please visit
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/gncy/nvstgtns/lds-eng.html
The complaint can be downloaded, in Microsoft Word format, from :
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax_evasion/complaint.aspx?company_id=83498352 (not sure what this link is because I can not open it with my iPhone).

Thank you,
Canada Revenue Agency
Tax Evasion Department

It does look and seem pretty sketchy - though the fact their links go to the actual sites does help it appear legit.

What was the email address it was sent from?

I'm confused. Have you verified that is the actual email and not just the email name? I can't see how a fraud email could possibly be sent from that address?

the fact that they didn't know your name is sketchy enough for me. That and CRA doesn't email.

Spoofing an email address is on the same level of difficulty as remembering to not pee into the wind. Anyone can figure it out in about 3 seconds.

ALWAYS google these types of emails. It takes literally 10 seconds to find out it's a hoax.
