About a year ago I got turned to using dental floss PICKS, versus the conventional floss rolls. (i.e. too dirty, never get the correct length when I wrap around fingers, etc...)

On my recent trip to Wal-Mart I notice they actually sell 2 brands of these floss pickers.

However, there definitely are differences between the brands (IMHO)... I am willing to sacifice the embarrassment of posting my titty chompers in hopes someone can use this info. I hope the flaming will be to a minimal.

So the brands involved were:

1. Placontrol Inc.'s "Plackers Micro Mint"
2. Maxill's "Flosser Piks"

At first glance, to us non-professionals, you might think they're all created equally. But I beg to differ.

For one, PRICING: The Plackers are $2.96 (before tax) for 90 pieces ($0.03/pick), The Flosser Piks are $2.00 (before tax) for 50 pieces ($0.04/pick)

Secondly, the satin feel of the Plackers provide more comfort to the touch versus the cheap China smooth plastic of the Flosser Piks.

Plackers are way more strategically designed to curve to reach to hard places (the way the floss section curves at an angle)... Flosser Piks just has that cheap "copy" someone else feel.

Plackers have a patented designed "pick protect" at the end, this ensures you don't stab yourself during flossing, Flosser Piks don't, it's just a sharp edge on the end (disclaimer: I don't know if Placker's break-away pick protector is patented or not, its just so fucken awesome they're stupid not to patent pending)...

As for the actual performance, I found that the Flosser Piks are so tightly wound, that, and with the fact that their floss materials are just too "dense"... This makes it really really difficult to get it between some of my teeths.

Plackers on the other hand, with it's satin surface and engineered design, I found was the more superior between the 2 brands. Floss is way fluffier than the Flosser Piks, there's just the right amount of slack (less tension), so no problems sliding to any teeth.

All in all, IMHO, Placontrol's "Plackers" provide better value, quality, superior handling, not to mention you can actually taste the mint (can't taste anything with Flosser Piks "mint" pack)

If you like, I can stop by and take some better pictures of you flossing. I feel the consumers are being gypped with a low quality review here.

Dude, plackers double string at shoppers = the best.

Doesn't have the nice taste the mint ones do, but they are durable as fuck and get EVERYTHING out.

And I'm with AE92, if it wasnt for these picks, i wouldnt floss. Honestly, i just sit at my computer and read forums and pick for about an hour a day. My gums are fucking indestructible now... when I first started they would bleed like crazy.

I am disappointed. I was expecting so much more... not literal dental floss pics.

Tom clearly needs these models to demonstrate proper flossing.

You know you can bite them in, right?

I tried some free samples I got from my dentist. Hated them. I'm wayyy faster with the old school floss.

I had a similar experience, might have to try the plackers. My first annoyance with them was getting at the back teeth and having to open so damn wide when with regular floss you can do it quite easily. Second was the fact I have a baby tooth that has been built up with bonding to prevent the upper tooth from erupting down to fill the space. Problem is that there is a ridge about halfway down the tooth so with most thick poor quality floss I end up shredding the floss on the ridge and a bunch gets stuck in there so I spend the next 20mins getting it out, have to see if plackers has a decent enough quality floss that it won't just shred apart. I think they would be a great idea to store in your desk at work.

I love the dental tape, tastes delicious and produces stellar results. I sure 9 out of 10 dentists would agree.

I went to Shoppers to look for the twinline but they sold out so I got the regular one. I have to say, they are very strong. It makes flossing so easy now.

If Jesus was a dentist hes would use this product. Im pretty sure elvis did too. Never cuts the gums and has a soft, silky feel.. almost sensual.
