Thanks for that info, I really do appreciate that, I will look into those plugs a little more, but I quickly took a look at them and they seem a lot more practical and explain more than real mil spec plug guys do. Their websites are so plain they expect you to know what your looking for. Making it hard to really shop for anything lol.

Thanks again

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/sq6wiringloom.html

Those two sites should give a bit of a primer/insight into what goes into making a pretty top-shelf harness. A lot of the stuff there goes well above and beyond what companies like rywire do, but it's a slippery slope haha

Harness looks great op

sr20s14zenki
01-23-2014, 03:15 PM
I read some of that for inspiration when i started building the harness. That guy must have serious money into that harness. Like you said, slippery slope lol.

Even if you look at a chase bays cm2 harness, its like 1400$ haha, thats quite a ways beyond the 900$ base harness without the Mil connector. That tells you how much extra goes into making it mil. Not to mention, chase bays as far as i know doesnt use mil-spec WIRES in the loom. You can get that, its good to like 300 degrees, chemical resistant, and abrasion resistant, sometimes to the point that it breaks strippers, lol.

Im not going that far........

thanks 962

Take me for a spin when it's finished? I'm interested to compare what it's like vs my fc. I think you'll be about 100kg lighter.

Really? Are you planning on full interior still?

I weigh in at 2900 lbs with a full tank of gas and no me in the car.

I'm not going to have much of an interior but my cage is pretty extensive. I assume it will be around 3000lbs with fuel but it may be heavier.

I have full stereo with sub, sunroof, power windows and locks, full interior, oh yah, and a 2jz. Theres a lot of weight i could trim, but why, its a street car...and it makes 500+ whp, power to spare!

Let me know if you source those kevlar looking coolant/heater hose lines. Looks like an option I might be after.

I believe mopac and jbs sell a black version of it, the black carbon looking braid. The expensive part is the fittings (at around 40-65$ a piece. They sell them at jbs for sure. for your average rad hose youre looking for around -20AN

Maybe next year for mine. Not this year.

I wanna say the hood pins are pointed in the wrong direction "according to the instructions" but I don't think it matters, and further I'm pretty sure I've installed them the same way with no ill effects.

Awesome build

Question.... that car with the Efr on the other 2j we did....... it spooled what? 400 rpm sooner? What size was it?

I dyno tested a rb with the smaller 63/68 airwerks, and it was very snappy..... enough that I put a 60/68 on the talon with a divided housing....to replace the old t70. Should still do 600 whp..... sharp turbo for $700

Is yours the 66/75?

Yah, i kinda HAD to point them that way, or lose my hood prop spot. Im just on the edge of it even now haha. If you google aerocatch, a lot of people actually face em that way.

That being said, i removed the pop part of the hood latch, but retained the safety part that you push under the hood. If they do fail, it wont be going far.

Toma:

The other car was an 8374 EFR and it spooled 500 rpm sooner than mine, but made way better torque way sooner as well. His was a monster to drive, way snappier than mine.

I believe mine is the 66/75 yes. Its the biggest s300sx, .91AR if i remember correctly.

I might be upgrading to that efr, and if so, that will be totally cool. I need a bit more mojo down low.

I think that is the s300sx-3? They have a 60mm version...not sure if thats it.

Toma
02-11-2014, 10:06 AM
ok.... so, looking at BW catalog.

The EFR is a significantly smaller turbo than yours, I suspect that is why it spools a bit quicker.

Using the SAME naming convention as the EFR uses (wheel OUTSIDE diameters), yours would be called a 8980

The inducer on the Inlet of the EFR is 62, they don't list the exhaust wheel smaller diameter in my catalog. Maps look very close to the 63mm s300.

I betya just a regular old airwerks with wheels similar size to the EFR will boost about the same.... for 1/3 the money.

Could be, but also, wouldnt the ball bearing center help it a bit?

It does flow 79lb, so it should be good to some pretty decent power. I think that purple one made 500 on only like 16 psi.

I like the additional bonuses that you get with the efr, such as a lighter exhaust wheel (gamma TI) and a stainless housing. Plus, built in waste gate that flows a shit ton, built in bypass valve, etc...

I will like to not have an external WG, but i will miss my dump.

Heres some lit on the features

Yeah the ball bearing center should help, plus the turbo spools faster on the road then what the dyno graph suggests. Transient response, quicker into boost, and having a crazy flow for the size compared to Garrett of similar size.

You should be able to make better power too with bigger cams and a proper setup. Running wasted spark and having injector duty problems probably wasn't helping the case either since not a lot of clean runs were made. I think the 500whp on pump gas in Calgary was good given the situation and the fact that it was only a 62mm turbo at that boost level.

Not realistic on the 2JZ but efficient four bangers make 800whp with the EFR8374.

Toma
02-11-2014, 11:29 AM
Oh, I know. I was thinking bang for the buck, I seriously doubt it will significantly outperform the s300 of similar size. Everyone automatically gets the biggest s300, where as with the $2000 EFR, they spend a little more time choosing it.

From what I've seen, ball bearing vs journal has a minimal effect on spool. There's a good thread on supraforums with actual data, I think Sound Performance did it.

AMFH403
02-11-2014, 11:46 AM
Oh I agree as well Toma, bang for your buck the Airwerks are a crazy deal. But wouldn't the results show a difference from EFR vs Airwerks? For example 500whp on a 62mm turbo (EFR) vs a 67mm turbo (biggest s300sx). At slightly less boost and less aggressive cams make similar power to a better set up car with with more aggressive cams and a a larger 67mm turbo. I guess the difference is minimal if you are aiming at peak power/bang for the buck though.

Tough call.

I'd still rather back to back it on the exact same car myself before I am convinced.

Jody's S300 made outrageous power for his combo, and pulled flat almost to 8000. So, even though all the Supra combos "look" similar, they can behave quite differently.

Here's his sheet posted on the Full-Race website. His car was insane fast for a fat Supra, and a solid 3000 rpm of power band is very good. (full boost about 4700, I pulled most runs to ~7800), and I think he had 264 cams.

this was 88/75

I agree, theres no solid results with testing unelss its replicated on the same car under the same conditions.

I saw the graph of Jody's car before, he makes great power on race gas at 26 pounds. Gave me sort of a guideline on what to do this year.

The comment I was mostly referring to was "I seriously doubt it will significantly outperform the s300 of similar size"
If the 62mm EFR can match similar results with better spool on paper as a 67mm turbo that should be considered pretty impressive, going to a smaller 62mm airwerks I just think the EFR will significantly outperform it.

Ill test for free if anyone wants to play "swap the turbo on the dyno" lol. Would love to see.

My Talon is 2.4l. Curious to see results with 60mm s300....

Just take the marmon on the turbo, and mill it flat, on the s300, you end up almost exactly a 3.5 vband.....

Dario did that for my 60mm.

Yah i was thinking more for testing. I was thinking buy a small s300sx, test it out, and then sell it afterwards. My current setup has a marmon on it so it would be no issue to just use that. I did think of a crappy issue tho, the manifold i will be running will have no external wg setup as its for EFR....so unless i can find an exactly same manifold with a wg port, the testing will be flawed.

AMFH403
02-11-2014, 04:03 PM
I think Sentry has the same manifold except with a wastegate port! Just have to pool a lot of resources for testing. I'll be willing to contribute a little if testing could be done.

Fitted the new dash plate, welded on my parts to hold it together, etc.. THANKS GRETZ!! Master machinist.

Interior is all done, just waiting on my fuel gauge, as you can see LOL.

I have ONE thing left to do besides radiator when it gets here, and thats to run a power wire in the trunk, after that its done until i get my new bumper and seats closer to summer

That's a pretty engine! I just bought a 1j gz21 soarer, this build thread gives me plenty of gumption to get modding it!

I can't explain why, but seeing a throttle body bolted on with hex head bolts rather than allen head bolts makes me feel funny. I can't explain why lol.

The rest of it looks great!

That should be loads of fun! What kind of power are you shooting for when you turn up the boost?

THANKS!

Got a few issues solved between yesterday and today.

Had a pretty nasty timing drift (stupid VR sensors) but fixed it, all good now

Had a clunk in the front end over bumps, turned out engine was TICKLING the rack. Made a few
1/4" collars on the plasma table, slid em in, all good. No more clunk.

Things left to fix, are the noisy vvti gear (assuming its fucked, get new) and Cooling still...maybe i have bubbles in there still (hope so)

Time to put it under a cover for a few months and work on other peoples shit now (=

Mr2 is coming up. I'll probably pull the motor this summer and rebuild it. 4age stuff is cheap. I'm going to remove the Ct26 and throw on a t3/t4 58 trim.. Should do 300 wheel. Gong to run it on a Megasquirt 3x

The 240 ate all my money for now ;)

So, how do i put this

Ive decided to do the responsible thing for now, and part the car out. Its been a great ride, and a learning experience...but i need to think about my family for at least the next 3 years or so, get out of debt, etc.

There will be more builds in the future from me. Im hoping to have an MK4 in at least 4 years.

The car just requires too much time to finish, and i keep chasing my tail with issues because i rush everything because i have no choice. My next build will be more structured, methodical, and planned out.

Thanks to everybody that has followed this build. Its been truly awesome, and the years it did run properly, were awesome. Just need to move on and recollect myself.

Awesome build man, I still remember coming to your garage and seeing all the work you put in on it. One of the best builds!

Good luck!
