Well, with the passing of my drift bitch, it gave me the push i needed to sell all of that off, and start on my 2jz s14 swap. Why 2jz you ask? heres my logic

-Bigger than an rb25 AND rb26

-Less trouble to put in than an rb26 IMO

-2jz is known to be a rock solid engine platform.

-Stands out a bit more :bigpimp:

-Can be had from an Aristo for DIRT cheap. The only problem with Aristo motors, is that the harness is pretty much useless...but really, and RHD Toyota harness is, they dont reach in the lhd chassis. To make it useable in another swap we did on an sc300, i had to painstakingly cut and extend each wire in the harness, and that totally sucked. That was my reason for going with a complete standalone that i can wire independantly of the car. Less hassle.

So anyways, ive decided even tho i am a fabricator, its not worth my time to fabricate mounts when its already been done. The kit is fairly comprehensive, and comes with everything i need.

http://myjzswap.com/ecom/images/uploads/Kit%20wo%20mounts.png

And Oh look what arrived the other day......

http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t320/ca18det240sx/IMG_0183.jpg

More pics and updates to come, as engine arrives and fab starts on exhaust and intercooler piping. As for turbo setup, i am planning on running the balls off the stock twins till they blow, or until next year, when i upgrade to a borg warner s300 and some other go fast goodies ;)

Going to be running an r154 behind it with an act clutch for now, its all i need for the stock power and maybe just a bit more. Should be a fun job, i will keep you all posted.

thanks for looking.

Ok, so i guess an update is in order.

Spent today simplifying the setup, and removing useless shit that doesn't aid at all in making the engine run.

After all of that was done, i spent some time to wire in the haltech and do a wire tuck while i was at it. Basically built my own harness. Notice in the pictures how you cant see any wires from the front? Stealth baby...stealth...:D

Still waiting on my mount kit....not happy with myjzswap.com at all. Guy doesnt return emails...

Parts left to get, supra twin turbo water pump and thermostat housing, 1jz flywheel and bolts, and a 7mgte supra slave cylinder.

Will keep updating as shit happens.

Thanks guys.

Master Tanner also relocated the ugly fuse box from the engine bay. It is now simplified down to like 4 fuses and 3 relays, and put inside the car. No nasty wiring cluttering up this engine bay.

There will be lots more to come. Should be dropping in the 2jz by the weekend.

yah, it was kind of a necissary evil. The chassis didnt have the necessary space to run the exhaust down the
passenger side, or anywhere else for that matter. i want the car to be stupid low when its done...so no scrapy scrapy. Hopefully it doesnt deter flow too much, especially next year when i throw the borg on there.

hey btw how much did it end up costing to get the r154 to fit to the 2j?

sr20s14zenki
01-18-2012, 09:01 PM
You just get a 1jz bell housing and fit it to the r154. Then you use a 1jz flywheel, and 7mgte clutch setup.

Just around the 1k mark all said and done, if you dont get a sick deal on a tranny...........

2jz is costly man....hope you have deep pockets...because if i had somebody else building it for me, it would cost so much more...and its already making me broke lol.

Doubtful, those are pretty cheap now.

But it's a Supra! A bloated, heavy, totally over rated car in every way, and you would get a SLOWWW ass stocker.

the 240 will rape a similar mod "stockish" Supra forward, backwards, and sideways. Hell, a 240 will do that with a Sr20.

While I do agree, I would much rather still have a mint Supra than a mint S14 with a SR20. Everyone and their dog has a 240 with an SR20. Shit is played out bro. That's why you gots to keep it fresh like Evan, S14 with a 2JZ!

Every guy that has ever been into the 'tuner scene' secretley has or had a crush on the Supra.

Not me. I've had a half dozen tuner cars, and never wanted a Supra.

My personal taste has always been "bang for the buck", so that's why I started with Mustangs.

Supra is an image thing.

They were sought after only because of their exclusivity... read.... price.

So, you had a VERY expensive car, that CAN make power, but it's heavy, and slow stock.

S14's maybe "played out" if you count the junk drifters out there, smashed up, torn interiors, zip ties holding on the bumpers....

But a Clean s14 tastefully done, is as rare as any Supra lol. And for some reason, doesn't scream "1989" near as much. For me anyway.

Don;t get me wrong, I like all the imports, just don't "get" the "Supra hard on" some people have.

true that toma true that... the supra IS a bad chasis! and yeah slicks on 240 and 350-400whp and it's ownage... just hard for me to get around the price... dang just need to make soome more money... LMFAO

And PS, the 2JZ engine/swap is also played out. Everywhere but Alberta lol. For whatever reason, we don't have any yet.

So, while the rest of the world is moving onto better, lighter, more modern engine swaps, we are just getting into the 2JZ frenzy. :dunno:

And it's 2012, and we have only had two "sport compacts" run into the nines here. WTF!!

It's like we live in a alternate Universe lol

JZS_147
01-19-2012, 12:37 PM
Incorrect. Don't get me wrong Toma, I love S14's (as I've asked to buy your silver one many times lol) but I'm going to have to disagree here.

Build quality overall on the Supra is much better than an S14. Toyotas are known to be built super tough, the Supra is no different. Hence why our Targa rally Supra that runs every year for the past 8 years (and always finishes in a top position) is still on the same setup. While we see guys with various other cars changing out transmissions, axles, major parts, we sip coffee's and chuckle while we wash our JZA80 and clean it up for the next stage.

We use to run an R32 GTR in the Targa rallies, it was a very weak car and weak chassis. Ended up being written off after Richard Kimber put it into a ditch at the Tasmania rally. The Supra has been through hell and back....ACP put it into a ditch last year, Kimber wiped out a few times, ACP put it through a fence and into a house this year (lol) and she's still going.

I'm sure I don't need to mention Reg's 4th place victory in 2000 One Lap against some high end tuners with deep pockets (Mallett, Renntech, Mopar) which he competed against with STOCK Supra brakes.

And speaking of an S-chassis being faster than a Supra since it's so heavy and sluggish....I remember beating a silver S14 (that ran a low 12) 5 times in a row (from a dig and roll) 2 years ago with my almost stock Supra (all it has was exhaust). I also remember beating a white S13 with a supposed 400hp SR on the exact same cruise down Stoney.

Thanks for the comments, i welcome any of them, lol.

As for this build, i am not looking for a cheap supra replacement, the choices i made were pretty simple...

sr20det is played out, and while its an AWESOME platform, it really starts to chew at your pockets for anything over 400 whp.

Rb26 is costly, and a pain in the ass by the time you use a different transmission, make an oilpan work, go to single turbo right away because the twins are a pain in the ass to fit, AND every damn part that you need for it as far as stock parts are concerned, needs to come from japan.

rb25 is a joke, the head flows shitty, and again, you need to sink a boatload of cash to get anything out of it...so scratch that.

2jz is proven to 1000 hp on a stock bottom end (i know, not reliably..duh). 2jz has parts available on this side of the pond, as it was an engine that was produced for our market. Also, the engine has the manifolds backwards to nissans, so im not fighting around a steering shaft, etc...altho the exhaust was a bit of a pain in the ass.

As for why i chose the s14...personal choice. I love the s14, everything about it just clicks with me, and the kouki front end just completed everything for me as the image of what i wanted my car to look like. Also, contrary to what some say, the s14 is an awesome chassis..it is very solid, and very well balanced, and apparently retains its balance even with a 2jz.

My goal in this project, is to have a nice streetable car, with shitloads of power on tap. i want it to be balanced. Im not building a drift machine, or a drag machine, or an autocross machine...its being done to be an all around street car, with a nice system, etc.....

After this car is done....and i start to explore the capabilities of the 2jz, i plan in the future to do a full drag car, 2jz based, just not sure on the chassis....maybe an ae86? ROFL.

At any rate, feel free to comment, or to offer constructive criticism. I hope to impress myself first, and everybody else after, with this build....so lets see how she goes.

Yeah RBs are stupid if you want to make any kind of real power.

I mentioned in another thread I'm planning a big power Aristo/GS300 to be my "good car". Just need to unload this Skyline haha. Nobody ever has cash for my cars, they just want to trade.

I loved my SR S13 and I'd love a sub-$2000 KA S13 just for a daily beater/winter drift slut. Maybe once this Golf is tired of me thrashing it everywhere.

carpet is in, dash is in, most interior is wrapped up and done. Just put tranny back in with the clutch installed (was only in for mockup before).

I have to say, im quite pleased. Believe it or not, tranny removal and installation is EASIER than it was with a ka24de, or sr20....how fucked is that. The only thing i dont like is the pull style clutch, what a pain in the ass that is.

Update.

ran harness into car, put a few things where they belong..

still fidgiting with heater core lines. Man, s14 sucks for the stupid coolant shut off valve that has to go inline with one of the heater core lines...totally gay. Wish i could use an s13 setup..doesnt fit.

Anyways, got it figured finally...so should be able to button up engine bay tomoro

heres what its looking like so far.

All mechanical is done, just need to tuck the electrical into the dash, finish putting the interior back together, and paint it.

Should be able to start it up in a few weeks.

Just installed progress rear sway bar. What a nice piece of metal :D

Sikky front sway bar is on the way. For any of you guys doing a 2j, ls, etc, the front stock sway bar doesnt fit...period....and who wants spacers anyways. The sikky is made to accommodate those particular swaps, and be 3 way adjustable.

Gonna pound on the car this sunday, and hopefully have it in driving mode, and ready for paint. All of the small, loose ends are slowly getting tied up.

So far, i say, this swap is not for the weak hearted....and its not cheap....at all.

I remember someone telling me that it was pretty cheap... but that was before he found a bellhousing, trans, mount kit, etc

You almost had me convinced ;)

how much would say the swap is costing you only to get the motor in the bay? Ive been thinking about this for quite a while. Perfect match of heart and body

It really depends on what you are planning to do. You CAN wire in the stock ecu and harness for cheaper, but i decided to go with a standalone, and save myself the trouble. This is also because i plan to upgrade. Also, wiring a stand alone is way easier than wiring the stock ecu...that and the stock ecu is useless.

I would say just the engine in the bay, with what ive done, 7000-8000$, I lost track.
