It should be legal IMO. Frees up traffic for everyone.

I haven't but I really wish it was legal. If cagers saw how much space it could free up I don't think they would mind either.

It would take 1.25 hours to get home, splitting makes it 20 mins.

drivers in Calgary don't know how to drive around bikes...not saying none of it is the responsibility of the riders, but there's been a LOT of left turn related incidents with bikes this year.

Top that off with a bunch of idiots that honestly think they can drive effectively while text messaging with one hand and scarfing down a big mac with the other and you've got a recipe for disaster...

Places that allow lane splitting the drivers of the cars are aware of the fact that people can do it, and they have specific rules in place that say when you can and can't do it, which is what makes it work. You can't lane split at 100 km/h when the traffic is stopped for example, you can lane split only when traffic is moving below a certain speed, and can't be going more than I believe it's 15mph faster than the traffic flow.

If there were rules in place to allow for it I would do it for sure...sitting in traffic with the fan going on the bike is no fun.

^^^ not to mention those places are warm year around and see bikes daily... not for only 5-6 months out of the year... and only when its not down pouring rain

Almost happened last night to me - one of those butt clenching moments and everything goes in super slow motion as you watch your life flash in front of you eyes and then thank whoever is up there that he swerved back out of my lane.,.....

i had a lady lane change into me (i was riding beside her car afterwards, didnt hit me cause i moved over)

i honks, rev'd, tapped on her window... she wouldnt even make eye contact. like just cause she was in a bigger vehicle she could drive anywhere she wanted... i hate drivers in this city :banghead:

I've done it in other countries, but not here. Some A-hole would rage and open a car door or something.

I was cut off hard my a SUV and the lady realized once she'd already pretty much commited to it. After the severe braking I had to do to save face she was nice enough to wave at me and mouth "sorry" while still holding her cell.... :banghead:

That's a big, big factor. By the time drivers are used to seeing bikes every day it's the end of the season and time to put them away again.

This is why we need a hardcore group of people to rock bikes year round!

I try.. pretty much any day that it's +4 or greater I'll ride, with there being no snow on the ground.

I'm thinking 30 below with studded tires is our only answer here.
