Basically I'm wondering how many inches is a 1920x1080 pixel resolution? My friend is buying a television and I want to tell her to get something that won't distort the picture too much by being too large or too small for the native picture size. I'm also wondering for myself.

I havent seen 1080 distort on a 110" projector. Or a 22" monitor.

480 looks like ass on everything above 30" I find.

You're confusing the concept of "native resolution" with the idea that it is size dependent.

What you're really trying to ask is what a solid readable DPI (dot per inch) standard like 72dpi to translates to in size when you relate it to a 1920x1080 resolution.

As usual, google is your friend:

With that out of the way; you could calculate the standard you'd want to be around 40-50 in' to get the DPI that's really "photographic" to humans from more than a few feet away. That said, at a 7-8' viewing distance, I absolutely love my 55' with it's LED array backlight(s).

There isn't a specific size that the standard resolution is going to make sense for -- it's dependent on viewing distance, preferences, and more subjective factors like pixel quality. All in all, making a recommendation based on the misconception that a particular size will distort something (very wrong) means that I'd say just don't make a recommendation to your friends because you're not in a position to. A good place to learn &/or find a great recommendation would be to try the forums at http://www.avsforum.com/ .
