Is there any clearly better waterproof point and shoot cameras right now? its gonna be used in salt water if that makes any difference. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

I have the TS3. Great pics and features. We used it in salt water everyday for 3 weeks. Totally exceeded my expectations.

TS3 hands down.. Best video features, sensor, functionality, and quality in my opinion.

do not get the olympus stylus 8010. i bought it for my trip and i used it often. but for some reason, it just decided to become INCREDIBLY slow..to start, scroll, do any function, even deleting. same thing happend to my friends same camera, we both tried new memory cards and updating the software and nothing fixed it.. piece of shit!:banghead:

By far the best underwater camera on a budget is a decent P&S in an underwater enclosure (Canon SD4000is, Canon S95, Canon G12, Nikon P7000, etc, etc.). Much better than a TS3 or D10, but will be a bit more money. You also get a great P&S out of the deal when it's not in use underwater.

All the "rugged" cams are fairly average for taking pictures because you are paying mostly for the enclosure it's in.

Salt water isn't a problem for anything as long as you give it a good wash in the sink or fresh water ASAP after you're done.

Canon S90 @ Blacks $249 (according to photoprice)
Canon WP-DC35 Underwater housing @ B&H $168

$68 more than a TS3 and it will be a far superior setup both in & out of the water.

I thought about that and it's for my sister and she won't want to fuck around with a case. :dunno:

Oh I assumed it was for you. Yeah if she is like most girls, she will likely be better served by a rugged/waterproof camera unless she's into photography.
