Saw your 134 mph run and the 11.31. Looked sweet

PS... Is Dario's 2.3L Pinto's 10.52 1/4 mile eligible, or is the list still closed to domestics?

Z_Fan

Dario's car is eligible. It's OHC right? So, it has been for several years...he just needs a back up pass, and I thought he already ran a 10.4 or something silly in Calgary? Was I seeing things?

Good job Toby, did you run the 11.04 time in the Test N Tune portion? I missed that one, too bad. Saw a lot of your other runs though. That launch must have looked nice, did you up the RPM or did it just hook up with the same set-up?

You know it has 10's in it all day long if you really hook it up. Lots of MPH. ;) It's nice that you got that time though, as now if you do run the 10.x you've got a back up pass that gives you a good range of times.

Not sure, he ran 10.5 and a 10.7 today. Don;t know the exact increments, hope they are within .25 lol

11.841 @ 118.34

I had run just a few minutes earlier and just had a bad launch, but when I saw the MPH I decided to hot lap it and get one more run in. Glad that I did, as it was my only pass in the 11's today.

I was getting quicker and quicker as the day went on.

I had to get a buddy with internet access help me get the information to set my WOT box as the delay for the ignition kill was too long. Once I got that sorted out, it helped me about 0.2 of a second each pass. So that was nice.

Anyhow, there ya go - another submission for your list!

I included the yellow slip just to piss you off. Have a look at the right lane there Toby. See that MPH? See the ET that goes with?

(1) The Supra in you signature is amazing.

(2) The guy driving a 12 second EG wins.

(3) A Pinto that runs 10's blows my mind into pieces.

(4) Beetle at 13.21 is also phenomenal.

I'm not sure why people choose such strange platforms to build from, but it's encouraging to see.

I got my Beetle ET down to 13.091 seconds at Castrol Raceway last night, so inching closer to a 12. You guys running 11's and 10's are amazing!!

Nice. Still trapping 101? Thing hooks like a beast, last year I barely cracked a 13.9 with a 103 trap on street tires.

I've been messing with my engine somewhat, should be a little quicker next time I race it.

Tranny still shifts like garbage, but my spare doesn't have an LSD in it, so it's a trade off.

See if I can grind gears to an 11.9 with a little more power. :)

I'm going to get rid of it...because I'd need to continually set the torque convertor until it is right, which it is not, and I'm not gonna piss with it.

So it is robbing power and MPH pretty much all the way down the track. If I stay auto of any kind it needs to have a lock-up.

I know. I know.

I'd guess the car would trap 127-132 with the 5 speed in it. Which is sitting in my shed, and starting to look really good!! Not as much fun for some reasons, and more fun for other reasons...

09-05-2011, 08:49 AM
Yeah getting the converter right is tricky but should really help your ET's once setup.

Nice Duncan! That's hauling ass mph.

Lets get some race gas in that thing, a bit of a re-tune, and jesus, that 60 foot blows.... slicks?

Is the boost by gear/rpm too "soft" in second??

You're 1/8th MPH is a bit slow for your 1/4 trap speed. Needs more aggressive at the bottom.

Yeah, Silivas are light, rear drive .... work awesome.

My S14 was about 320 or 330 rwhp with a stock motor and a 2860rs dinky turbo, went 11.4X at 120ish in Calgary.

Last night in a regular old KA24 240sx, we ran 123 mph with a clutch that slipped to 7000 on every shift. Might go to edmonton and see if we cant ron a 130mph pass tomorrow.

I LOVE Silvia's, and that S chassis!

I thought they didn't let the Pinto on the list cause it was running a straight axle domestic drive train? I could be wrong but he wasn't on it last year either was he?

Dario's car has been eligible for years. He just never participated. But he definitely can...

ron korolak
10-01-2011, 10:37 PM
Yeah he probably didn't want to go on since hes would be the only one on the list running a domestic drive train and non IRS!

Z_Fan
10-01-2011, 10:52 PM
He could have been if he wanted. He has been eligible since the "list" of eligible cars was scrapped and it went to a power plant only restriction. So it is pretty much anything on wheels as long as it is v8less and fits inside the displacement cap. Which Toby just increased to allow the 370z and GTR.

Dario just never bothered. But hopefully now that he has run in the 9's, he will submit a time.

Oh he will. not sure he is a member on beyond.... but fastest 4 banger in Alberta 2011.... I'd be proud of that.

I think he "never bothered" since the eligible cars BS was dropped cause his goal switched up to try and run 9's.... If I built a car to go 10's, and it ran 12's... I wouldn't bother either lol.... like my stupid Talon. grrrr :banghead:

Nah, something to be proud of. Number one on 40 year old 2 valve cylinder head technology! Modern 4 valve heads flow almost twice as much these days....

I this case, 'domestic' is a disadvantage.

I cant convince him to go 4 valve, but maybe some better fuel next year.

As a side note.... the Ford 1.3/1.6/2.0/2.3 was originally developed and used in European Fords. It was later imported into the US for use in the Pinto, it grew in displacement over the years, and eventually ended up turbocharged in the Mustang/Tbird/Merkur XR4ti

Technically, as much of an import as a Honda motor built in Ohio lol.

Ditto the C3 transmission... originally manufactured for european Fords in Bordeaux France in the early 1970's.

X2, It isn't a rule yet. But I think cars with IRS should only be on the list. More of just a street car list & not a full drag cars list.

I know some people will not agree, but that is just my opinion.

It doesn't have anything to do with a street car, but a sport compact car. Otherwise pretty much any mustang etc with a small motor would fit in to! I could care less either way but to bump a FWD car off the top with a straight axle RWD car is pretty much not in the same league.

What??

LOL.... You guys never cease to amaze me. You realize no one in the world considers a Supra a "compact" or "Sports Compact". It's a SPORTS car.

And Kiggly runs 7's in their FWD. What exactly is your point??

Awesome the dude in the Shadow ran 10's. I met him, and he IS a sportsman, and would be HAPPY at others achievements. So now, he will just turn up his game. Who knows, maybe throw a DSM motor in there ;) Like if you were faster then him on the list, he wouldn't be bitchin.... "oh, it's an awd running ethanol", we need a rule change to keep him off the list". He would congratulate you.

:drama: haha relax I don't care either way but there is a reason that this list was formed and that's all I was saying! I could care less about this list as long as I keep going faster and setting new PB. But if any car can be on the list take off the sport compact part of it in the name :)

Sure doesn't sound like it.

The lists intent is to keep track of FAST Alberta V8less cars. under 3800cc.

A Pinto IS a sport compact, the Supra is not. I do not understand the point of your post. It makes ZERO logical sense.

I saw a guy post he is building a 1972 Celica.... you guys wanna keep him off the list too cause it's not IRS?

So by your logic if I take my motor put it in a rolling chassis out of a mustang then I'm the fastest sport compact? Yeah that does make sense what was I thinking?

A Mustang, Supra, Camaro are all in the same boat as far as NOT being sport compacts. A Pinto is.

You guys are funny trying to make up shit to keep the Pinto out. Something Personal??

First "oh it's not fair a RWD domestic car beats a FWD car".... but the CLEAR advantage of AWD is ok?

It's not an IRS.... Ahhh, ok, so Old Celica's and stuff wont be allowed either?

"Oh, it's not Sports Compact"....which it IS, but Supra is not. A pinto is the ORIGNAL sport compact. Trying to keep it off is like trying to keep off a Ford Fiesta

Your having trouble defining what you want, and your thoughts and "should be's" are full of illogical contradictions.

Like really, make ZERO sense. I find it odd you are trying so hard.

Anyway ;) have fun with it, I'm out.

Congrats to ALL the new PB's this weekend!

So, I take it he is still on the live axle in the rear & suspended on leaf springs still?

I'm not trying to take anything away from what he did, it's a crazy fast car.
And I don't care if I was on top with my 10.995 at all. I just like to keep it fair for ever one.

Maybe I should put a auto in my car & a Ford 9" in the back & run 9's. But that isn't what I want to do. Not just so I could be on the list.

But it's funny how some people don't think Toyota's are making Sport Compacts.

But when I'm at the track, there is all ways someone that will come up & ask me if it's FWD or what 4 banger is in there.

I guess some people that don't like seeing a import on top.

Any vehicle with an OEM engine displacement less than 3.8L.[/B]

So it's pretty clear that Dario's car is totally eligible for the list, and has been for many years. Ever since the list of eligible cars was removed, and an attempt to broadly define what is allowed was instituted. All forms of drive train are permitted, the manufacturer of which is irrelevant.

Let whomever build whatever they want from whatever they want as long as the power plant is v8less and small.

I actually think the displacement cap should be LOWER, not higher. Perhaps it should just simply be anything goes, period, providing it is a 4-banger.

Exclude 6 cylinder cars all together. So all the engines would be truly a small displacement. That's what this list should really be all about. IMO, it's nice to include the 370z and the GT-R, but why? I think if anything, we should be reducing the displacement to truly only allow small engines. A 3.8L engine isn't small, it's not huge either, but it sure as hell IS pretty big and is a LOT bigger than a 2.4L 4-banger.

It could be really simple. Anything with 4 cylinders. Period.

But anyhow Toma, the Supra / RX-7 / 300zx were the classic "imports" and have always been a part of the list from it's origin. So yeah, those cars, and Toby's car in particular IMO are actually the core of what the list was originally meant to keep track of. But maybe it's time to just make it a 4-cylinder only list. I think that'd be a good idea actually, despite meaning my 300zx is not eligible to play.

LOL... oh I know.... I just think it's funny how the cry babies started pouting cause a 'domestic' that fit the rules made the list.

Do whatever floats your boat. Who gives a fuck? Running a stick behind a 700 hp car is stupid IMHO, but that's me. I'm old and don't like to shift. My 2jZ is getting a Toyota automatic.

IRS makes no difference at your level, if you think you would be faster with a live axle, or you ever run fast enough that tech starts to hassle you about the IRS.... then maybe it would make sense to go that route.

Quite a few Vipers have now been 7's with MANUALS and IRS. Stop crying about it.

Toyota MAKES sports compacts, but a SUPRA is not a compact. Period.

Your IRS rule shows you know nothing about Toyota's.... you would eliminate old Celica's, most Corollas etc... and other stuff like first gen rx7's, Opel's, etc.

I love Imports. I own more than you. Currently 5 of them (FD RX7, S13, S14, Talon, and one other ;)) and I tune ~10 a week....

Besides, I thought the 10 second guy was a Dodge Shadow? Is that an import? I'm ecstatic for him that he ran 10's, that is AWESOME, I don't care that it is a domestic. It's fucking cool that its a FAST 4 banger.

I don't care WHO is on top, I love fast V8less cars PERIOD.

Toby, you are turning out to be a real weird dude. You DARE bitch about bringing a gun to a knife fight, and "street cars", then 3 posts later you bring up Markos Supra. LMAO

1) the car is fast, but is pure race car. Did you look at it? Looked like a Chevy transmission in that thing to me ;)

2) Under the rules of the shootout, he would have been up against DEREK had he chosen to go to the race. How would your hero look against a 7.0 second Drag Radial car?

No excuses. Under the RULES of the race.... He was a class above Neal and the boys, and didn't run any faster. Neal challenged him to a grudge match anyway in his full interior heavy ass STREET car, and Marko declined.

Stop dancing around trying to figure out rule changes to keep the Pinto out. its only embarrassing you. All your proposed changes are silly, illogical, and contradictory.

Just be a man. Make the rule "No Pinto's allowed cause I don't like them.",,,,,,even though they are "compacts and have 4 cylinders.".

Ron, you are officially on my idiot list.

I CLEARLY said, "UNDER THE RULES OF THE SHOOTOUT".

I love the Supra, I have a mutual friend that knew Marko, so I went to talk to him about his car.... And ps... it wasn't a stock 6 cylinder motor ;) But try again.

So, BECAUSE it's a Supra, your "domestic drivetrain" comment suddenly goes away?

BECAUSE it's a Supra, Redmethods "RACE CAR" drivle goes away?

I don't know what it weighs, It was gutted of stock interior, most of the stock wiring, gauges etc. This was a purpose built car, and its FAST.

Oh yeah, DIRECT PORT methanol injection....

I like Marko's car its pretty fucking cool..... Redmethods brought it up like it meant something pertaining to this conversation..... I still don't get his point.

And yes, he was in one class above Neal. BY THE RULES. (Neal won his class).... And yes, had Derek showed, they would have squared off. I'm not gonna pretend like Derek's car is not like bringing a Cannon to a fist fight, but that was the rules going in. Derek's car is built to another set of rules, and is the fastest in his class there as well.

The ONLY biased guys here are you and Redmethods.

only 4 of the 10 on the list are sport compact cars, the rest are sports cars.

A sport compact is a high-performance version of a compact car or a subcompact car. They are typically are front engined, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive coupés, sedans, or hatchbacks driven by a straight-4 gasoline engine. Performance-oriented sport compacts generally focus on improving handling and increasing performance by engine efficiency, rather than increasing engine size. Sport compacts often feature external body modifications to improve aerodynamics or house larger wheels.
Typical sport compacts include such examples as Ford Escort RS Cosworth, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Honda Civic Si, Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Ford Focus SVT, Opel Astra GTC, Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V, Hyundai Tiburon, Honda Prelude, Toyota Celica and Scion tC TRD.

Yeah, you have to remember that this was originally an "Import" or Sport Compact / Import list. Then the struggle to truly define a Sport Compact begins. IMO, there are definitely 6 cylinder sport compacts.

I mean, a MX-3 Precidia is a SMALL 6 cylinder...it's definitely a sport compact at heart.

I still think it should be displacement cap based. But definitely not 3.8L which sure as fuck isn't small. I think the displacement cap should be reduced, not increased. It was only extended to 3.5L (or set at that in the first place, to allow all of the traditional import cars to stay eligible for the list, with the Toyota Supra being the sole reason the displacement cap went that high.)

Anyhow, if you wanted to talk rule changes, I think dropping the displacement to perhaps 3.0L at maximum would be a good idea, hey, maybe even 2.6L. Or, you could just say no 6 cylinders, period. Only 4's.

Then it's a run what you built scenario, with only 4 bangers. I kind of like that idea. No real rules except it's gotta only have 4 cylinders.

dj_honda
10-03-2011, 02:47 PM
Just look up a class list from one of the many US based drag racing series and follow that. That way it doesn't have a conflict of interest based on the person running the list. Also there is the solution of having multiple lists based on the classes.

IE: 1 for 4 cylinders, and 1 for non-v8 sport compacts/sports cars

Let me educate you a little.

"Shortblock" is the short block... no heads, basically the bottom end.
"Longblock" is the head assembly and shortblock assembled.
"Engine" is the entire assembly, intake etc.
