Router, I like D-Link. $60 at Memex for a 4 port. The modem will plug into the router and then you'll have 2 cables from the router going to each computer.

Hub is cheaper and Shaw does allow 2 ip's without extra charges. If you plan on having more than 2 comps in the future just spend the few extra dollars and get the router.

I use a router for internet sharing.....

on teh same topic I have a question about sharing files betweeen 2 computers (that are connected together using a router). One of my PC's is win2000 and the other is winXP. I have had trouble setting this up lately. I can access the files that are on the WINXP pc from the win2000 pc fine. But I cannot access the windows 2000 computer from the pc that is running winxp.

In "My network places" on the winxp machine, the win2000 pc is not showing up and I am not sure if I have set everything up alright on the winxp computer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do so I can access the win2k files from the winXP computer? (ie...what settings do I need/what steps do I need to take on my windows XP machine so I can access the win2k pc ?)

I had no problem doing this with my old win98 machine, simply ran the "network setup disk" that I made on the winxp machine and all was fine...

any help will be appreciated

Nismo: You have to install Netbeui on your XP machine. There's two files on your XP cd that you need to copy onto your XP computer. Once you copy and paste them, you should be able to see your 2000 machine. Takes a whole 30 seconds to do. I can't remember which filles they are or where they go, so you'll have to search for it on Google. Try something like "Installing netbeui win xp".
