It's July already! Nearly 3 weeks in Europe so far, wow it's gone by fast. Here is an unedited one from my P&S at the Pantheon in Rome today!

That dog one is adorable melinda, but the retrievers fur looks washed out against the white background but it might me my laptop screen. I like the last one too, the babies mouth is hilarious.

Thanks! I can see all of his fur on my desktop screen (which is calibrated) but I looked on my laptop and it looks washed out as well. Laptops are notorious for being brighter though, so that might be why. I'll probably try printing one off to make sure. It's a shot that the parents really wanted, and it took 3 of us to actually make it work, so I do want to make sure it's looking good.

Unfortunately my relief at work came a little late and I missed the fireworks that I'd gone up there to get the picture of...got this instead.

Congrats on the new baby!
I don't think you missed much on the fireworks from that view, if you're hoping to see the ones at Olympic Plaza, they were pretty low and small, although there were A LOT of it. Tons of small fizzy ones, and none of the big explosion ones like the ones set off during Stampede.

Thanks :D both of our first (at least that I'm aware of :P)
I Wasn't to worried about missing them anyway, one because stampede week is coming up (there'll be a couple fireworks shots during the stampede me thinks) and two because I actually think that's one of my favorite downtown shots that I've taken.

What filter do you use for the milky smoothness? And how do you focus and do you get crazy brown tint if you're using black glass?
I've been using the B+W ND #110, and I always have to go into RAW to adjust temperature as there's that brown tint on everything. It's kind of inconsistent as to how much the temperature changes depending on the scene. I'm a bit lazy and would love to have JPEGs be nice straight out of the camera :D

I used a B+W #106 (6 stop) ND. I use a D300 and it will autofocus as normal no problem through the 6 stop ND. Cameras can have trouble focusing through a 10 stop like the one you have, but I haven't tried it myself. Also, 10 stop filters are known for a warm/magenta color cast in images and almost always need the WB tweaked in post. If you want to use a 10 stop ND you will almost always need to correct WB, so I would recommend sticking to RAW. I haven't really noticed any sort of tint or anything on my pictures so far with the 6 stop, maybe a tiny bit. Exposure usually has to be tweaked a bit as well with the longer exposures, which is another reason to shoot RAW.
I could have used a 10 stop ND for several shots I took that day, but decided on the 6 stop because I wanted reliable AF and also I didn't want serious color casts. I'll probably still buy one eventually though, for the creative possibilities. I can always stack a polarizer on my 6 stop to cut another couple stops.

Cool, thanks.
I've already purchased a Malone tuning Stage 1/1+ with a Flashzilla loader. They had a special on them on VWVortex, $500 for the pair. It's got winters on the stock tires right now, waiting on my new rims (15 lb 17" RPF1's) and summers to come in before flashing the ECU.

lol
I was on the way out. I had 2 lenses with me and I kept switching between the 2 as I was moved several times.
I hoped to catch a glimpse of the 2 but they weren't on the aircraft.
Just moments before I was attached to the backdoor of that plane.
I think this is the 2nd time I got to work with this plane. This is normally the PM's plane, kinda like our version of Airforce 1.

Such a nice car. Were you at the practice last night? And it's what you call panning. Slower shutter speed while tracking the car from a distance. It requires really good form, fluid movement in your torso and a steady hand. Of course having a 70-200 with image stabiliser is a bonus too!

Thanks for the info on the ND filter, definitely agree that there's no way around not touching the WB in post oh well.
Great tip on getting them Stampede shots, I was thinking of heading out to that sidewalk down the hill from Ramsay and seeing what I can get there some time.
Here's some pics from the Stampede this year, I was under cover on level 5 for the rodeo and on level 1 for the grandstand show:

Anyone know who those two are? They just looked important with a big video camera haha. They were pretty cool and posed for a picture. The mic says SUN, but I don't think the SUN has video reporters??

When that skeleton type thing came out of the stage the nerd in me came out. It totally looked like the last mission of Mass Effect 2 when the big skeleton came up! haha Nice shot anyhow!

yup. were you one of the ones with the 70-200's?
I saw some truly stupid "photographers" some lady shoving her way to the rail by the start finish with a folding chair which she proceeded to stand on then whip out her P&S while giving me a look like I didn't belong there :-P

Awesome bee shot! One of the things I wish olympus offers is a 1:5 macro like canon does. If I ever switched it'd be to canon for that reason. Sure the 50mm f2.0 is nice, but it doesn't compare to 1:5

Not sure if you think you need 5X 1:1 to get bee shots like that, but if that is what you meant, luckily you don't.
Lots of other ways to get greater than 1:1 with any brand, though:
- Reverse a wide angle lens, the wider it is, the more magnification (e.g. 28mm prime reversed)
- Extension tubes
- Teleconverters & close up filters (e.g. Canon 500D).
-Bellows
-Crop (lol)
Just to give you an idea, check out this thread of what you can do with a reversed 24 & 28mm:

yeah, that one's just a lil 105 macro...I'm thinking of doing another bee shot today...I didn't have much time to get that one, so I'm not 100% happy with it.

Picked up an old 28mm f2 AIS manual focus lens, I'm pretty impressed with it. Both wide open:
