lower jaw lengthening?

So I have a small jaw and I suffer from sleep apnea

I heard that there is a jaw lengthening procedure that helps to alleviate sleep apnea


Have any of you or anyone you know had this surgery?

No experience in the jaw lengthening procedure, but I do have some knowledge of other avenues to remedy the problems.

I know a few members (all very overweight which is one of the issues) of my family have this issue of sleep apnea, really serious shit really if left unchecked. They all use machines at night to get a proper sleep. All wish they had started sooner and not put up with the terrible sleep they were having for years on end. Something like this:

Those face masks would be the equal of birth control or at least a decent comedy scene. I do have one cousin who uses acupuncture with success. You might wander down that road. Also he uses a mouthguard at night to align his jaw properly:

I would look at alternatives to jaw lengthening unless it is a teeth issue.

The surgery is quite invasive and requires braces for a period of time as well. You mouth will be wired shut for a few days and then soft foods only for a while.

You will end up with titanium screws in your body for the rest of your life.

The surgery isn't covered by alberta health care and neither are the braces. Expect to spend about $10-$15K.

My friend had that surgery done. Seemed like a forever long and painful process. The difference is night and day though.

This. Pretty much nailed it. I think my dads mouth was wired shut for at least a week. Wasnt fun.
