like free weights, some matting for the ground (concrete floor), exercise balls, small benches, bars, couple plates... ect.

free weights can be dumbbells, kettlebells, standard plates, olympic plates, bumper plates etc. Narrow it down

UFA for mats

exercise balls can be soft medicine balls (dynamax), hard medicine balls (dball), swiss ball, etc. Narrow it down

bench can be flat, FI (flat/incline), FID (flat/incline/decline). Narrow it down

bars can be standard, olympic, slow lifts, powerlifts, quick lifts. Narrow it down.

no clue what "couple plates" means

I would encourage you to check out Kijiji, usually you can get that stuff for a song from guys who's goal was to 'stay fit, keep active' for the New years, and quit in March.

+1 for kijiji. Lint helped me find a smoking deal on that site. I got a power rack, lat attachment, bar, and about 250lbs in olympic weights, for about 500 bucks. :)
