View Full Version : Do you have to pay parking tickets received on private lots?

Hey guys, I just got a ticket half an hour ago for parking on that big lot on the corner of 16th Avenue where Wendy's, The Keg, Redwater, etc are. Usually they let you park for free for 2 hours if you get a ticket from their machine. For some reason, when I got there this morning, the machine wasn't giving me that option to get the free ticket, so I just left and figured I'd be back quick pretty quick. Turns out I got a parking violation ticket pretty much just as I got back to my car; the ticketer was just leaving.

So anyways, since it's a private lot, do I have to pay the $40 ticket? I've heard that you can ignore these kind of 'violations' i.e. if you get a ticket at the U of C. Just wanna confirm this :D

Thanks guys!

Is it a Calgary Parking Authority ticket or was it issued by Impark/Diamond?

If it is CPA, you need to pay it. If it is Impark/Diamond, you don't but don't get busted in their lot again.

It wasn't CPA for sure. I also don't think it was Impark/Diamond.

If it was Impark/Diamond though... if it happened again would they just tow?

The one the OP is talking about is a Vinci lot IIRC

I'm assuming they have similar policy to Impark et al

You don't have to pay it.

It's usually CPA tagging/towing that lot

AndyL is right! My Gf got a ticket in the same parking lot and it was from the CPA.

So just don't pay the impark or diamond ones? I never pay the impark, but wasn't sure about the other lots too. This thread is great of clarification, thanks.

A plate change also tosses the tickets in the trash, those tickets from the private lots only.

You can get your plates changed for free every time you renew your registration. I get shitloads of Impark/Vinci tickets every year and I never pay them.

Years ago my friend's old man got collection letter from Impark.
He wrote 'return to sender' and 'deceased' over his name on the envelope and threw it in the mailbox.
Nothing came of it afterwards...
