Does this qualify as a spotted thread? I have one of these avaible for a lucky buyer. The rest are made to order and are anywhere from 3 - 6 months away. The car is as awesome as Top Gear says it is.

Very cool! If they were $10k cheaper (or 50hp more powerful ;) ) I would buy one. Congrats to the lucky new owner.

This is the car that's bringing me around to liking BMW. Don't like the rest of the 1 series, but this.... Absolutely beautiful

Sounds like it's right up 89coupe's alley.

Was this on the road on Sunday? I swear I saw it Southbound on Deerfoot (or another M1, if there's another in town, of same colour)
Or maybe it was just a normal 1-series with a M badge on it :dunno:

What is the competition though and how much does it cost? I see reviews comparing this to Audis (RS3, TT-RS) that are a lot more expensive. And what's an M3 fully loaded?

An orange one of these with no options would be my ride if I could afford it.

100% agreed, People always say "whoa that's way too much" and then never compare it to anything that can compare to the power and handling of it.

Just buy a base one, it's $10K cheaper than this one )

The reason this one prices out so high is because of the $5K executive package which to me personally isn't worth the cost. The $2300 navigation packge, yes, the exec no. A loaded M3 with special paint, cab etc is double the price of this car. For those who have driven one it's an absolute bargain.

whoa, you can get a 2 year old m3 for 65,000.
I will definitely buy one in 3 years though, hopefully for under 40 grand

Word. This thing is too small.

It's like the guy driving around in a 700whp mini cooper... In the end it's still a mini.

Haha, that is some great sales work right there. What exactly comes with the executive package?

Man BMW has managed to even outdo Subaru with all the bulges and curves on this car. I know they were limited with the short wheelbase but it's a shame the design is so awkward although I must say it does look better in person.

It's really tough for me to see the value here ....
The BMW dealer has a 2009 M Coupe parked out front with 16,000km on it for $50k! This particular M Coupe has probably $20k in AC Schnitzer aftermarket parts. I can understand the discrepancy in comparing a 2011 to a 2009, but I can't understand anyone thinking there's more prestige or value in the 1 series.
The 1 ///M is definitely an amazing car. I quite like them after being in & out of a couple. Yes ... They're incredibly fast & light! But the price is confusing to me. It's still the lowest class available by BMW.

Like someone else said ... $60k is M3 territory!
It just seems like far too much to ask for a car in the 1 class. Weren't these cars originally being marketed as economical ...?

A fully loaded M3 w/o DCT (to keep things fair) is almost $85k. That's quite the stretch from $66k. We're talking brand new cars here. The TT-RS, IMO its main competitor is an incredible car and I love it, but its a lot more expensive (starts @ $68, M3 price level)

The 1M is considerably cheaper than an M3. At sea level its just as fast, at this elevation it will be faster. Much better DD cause of the torque. The 350-400lb weight difference also goes a long way. If I could afford to buy one of these cars, driving pleasure would be my #1 priority, and I'd say for me 1M>M3. I don't care about prestige.

Fuck what a wicked car that is.

M3 $71,700

TT-RS is a great car but its not even in the same league as a 1M when it comes to pricing. Its $14,000 more...It has to be much better. Plus the TT-RS doesn't come with DSG in NA. You think the manual version is going to match the DSG performance figures? Forget that 3.6s 0-60.

These cars are so nice in person, I wasn't sure at first, but seeing them fly by at 220km on the Autobahn,
:burnout: :hitit: :hitit:

Buy one and do the European Delivery! Ask your dealer for details.

This is a better car than an M coupe, it's tough to explain until you drive one. And 60K is definitely not M3 territory unless you buy one that's 3 years old.

the manual coming to canada/usa is factory rated at 4.1s 0-60 because north america gets a more powerful ttrs than europe does, a chip will fix the time to under 4

the exhaust sound, engine, awd, and way better interior not to mention faster car is worth the 14k to me ;)
