I cannot believe how much faster it went round the track. All over seemingly minor changes.

I must say, have to be impressed with all those changes. Those numbers are insane for the cost.

I imagine it would have even more effects than that. This car is an amazing piece of technology on wheels, the transmission, especially the new one is a big part of that combination.
Do want though. I was thinking of saving for say a 2009-2010, but why bother when the 2012 is that much better. Better start working towards that

Im surprised they were so dissapointed in that Jag, they usually love their Jags.

The GTR is unstoppable.

Why? It would totally destroy what it is.

Why not just make it a 2WD and take out the turbos while you are at it. Oh wait, they make one of those already. the 370Z.

So does this mean you're allowed to use LC in the new ones?

So, if the tires are filled with nitrogen, that basically means I would be fucked if I ran over a nail or something, right?

What? Are you high, or are you thinking of Hydrogen or something explosive?
Probably 50% of all tire shops use nitrogen now.

The benefits are debatable, but the drawbacks are zero.

It's allowed since they released new software for LC going back to year 1.

They come filled with nitrogen but you can fill them with whatever you want yourself. When I brought my car into T&T for service, they topped up my tires with nitrogen.

Why would they make a new z06? I thought the ZR1 was the cats-ass nowadays.

Because the ZR-1 is not in the same "class" lets say.

The Z06 is/was because of the price/performance of both vehicles when they respectively came out.

A new Z06 with 550Hp + should be interesting. The Z has always had the weight edge.

Definately go try one first.

The GTR is a quick car, ridiculously fast in a straight line, cornering, everything. But it's too easy, and gets boring quick. You can learn to drive the car right at the limit at 99% in 1 track day.

I kept expecting them to bring up the transmission-eating LC of the early model cars. I like the LED lights on the front bumper and I respect the GTR for its dollar-to-dollar performance.

But it's not pretty. Striking yes, but not pretty.

Too late to get one for the 2012 MY. Only 13 came to Canada, I work with someone that got 1 a few weeks ago, so I imagine they've all been delivered by now.

What snow mode does is sends more torque to the front wheels then rear, also it reduces the gas paddle, so 50% throttle is like 25% in normal mode so you don't loose traction! Pretty epic, there a guy down the block from my house an he owns a white GTR, I wanna see if he will take me around the block

I did some research a few months ago, you certainly can. I've seen at least 3 in Calgary in the winters.

There's only 1 snow tire for it tho.

Interesting, thanks. I always thought the ZR1 was the successor to the ZO6.

I've seen a red GTR in the NW the past two winters, old guy drives it. The best winter beater ever.

Yeah, air is around 78% Nitrogen, so the benefits are minimal at best.
This car still amazes me.
You make an interesting point Rage, but would it be all bad? I was watching at the track a few weeks ago and there was a whisper quiet GTR there running very low 1:20's according to my watch. Pretty cool.

Always thought it was more that air from regular pumps has more moisture in it rather than the nitrogen from a tank. :dunno:

Definitely agree with you here. One of the highlights of driving cars is the challenge to learn it and master it. If you're equipped out of the gates with the potential that everyone else has, it does suck the fun out of it.

And you definitely can drive it in Calgary winters. Last time I drove one was in the winter, the car hooks up like no other off the line whether its on a track or its cold. The owner that I drove it from didn't even put snows on it and he drives it in Edmonton, which has considerably more snow buildup than Calgary.

That's the thinking, but the performance gains are minimal. Filling tires with nitrogen is old, low tech stuff but no surprise that Clarkson thinks it's the newest and most incredible thing ever done. His ignorance always amazes me.

The most interesting part of this video is when you pause the frame at the end with the times. Check out the car with the best Sports Car time....it's even better than the two in the video and faster than the best bike time. ;)

I've heard the new 2012 ZR1 will be around the ~110K mark, which puts it in the same price / perfomance class as the new GT-R.

The 2012 ZR1 did the 'Ring in a time of 7:19:4 while the 2012 GT-R did it in 7:24:22. That's 5 seconds...huge!

From Motortrend:

http://wot.motortrend.com/video-find...ime-85635.html

"Jim Mero’s new lap time of 7:19.4 in the 2012 Corvette ZR1 stands as either the fastest or second fastest lap of the ‘Ring for a production car, depending on who you talk to. Porsche currently claims to have the record for production car around the Nurburgring, with a time of 7:18 completed in 2010 in a 911 GT2 RS. But unlike Chevrolet, Porsche hasn’t released a video of the record lap time, nor has it admitted to whether or not the car was completely stock or not."

Has to be my favourite "affordable car" at the moment. I have read in a high profile article, as a daily driver the car is simply too harsh to drive on the streets. I am left to wonder, I cannot imagine such a great car being anything but a pleasure to drive. Harsh I can do.

Yeah. The 2012 GTR is actually now (price wise anyway) comparable to the ZR1. The Z06 might still be the best bang for the buck.

Anyway 2013 is the next gen corvette, but the 2012 Z06 is going to be fucking rad.

Taken from: http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car/11q2/2012_chevrolet_corvette_z06_zr1-car_news

More Grip on the Road

The 2012 Corvette also gets some performance-oriented upgrades as well, though the lion’s share of them go to the hard-core Z06 model, which arguably doesn’t need anything more than more grip to handle the 505 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque from its 7.0-liter V-8. Fortunately, additional grip it will get, in the form of newly available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires. They will be available as part of the Z07 handling package for the Z06, and also for the ZR1 as part of its new PDE performance package. Measuring 285/30-19 in front and 335/25-20 in back, the new tires will help the Vette corner at more than 1.1g, according to Chevy. (That claim is not as outrageous as it may seem. We’ve recorded 1.07 in both a Z06 and a ZR1.) Also helpful are the new lightweight aluminum wheels paired with the new tires, which will be offered in satin black or machined finishes. More important, each wheel weighs about five pounds less than its counterpart on the current car.

Also new to the Z06 is Performance Traction Management, which, in a nutshell, is multiple, driver-selectable stability control programs and launch control. While we love tire smoke and yaw as much as anybody, the prospect of a more-controllable Z06 sounds good to us. Rounding out the changes for the 2012 Corvette are a newly available racing-style full-width rear spoiler for the Z06 and ZR1 as part of the Z07 and PDE packages, respectively. The Z06 also is available with a new carbon-fiber hood.

So 2012 Z06 should be around 3200lbs even.

Anyway enough Chevy nut hugging from me, The 2012 GTR is still a fantastic car!
