Two men are lucky to be alive after an early Friday morning game of chicken with a CPR train. The men bailed from the truck at the last possible second and barely escaped with their lives, according to police.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. Agassiz RCMP responded to a report from CPR advising that a train had just run over a truck at the Cameron Road and Wells Road train crossing.

Investigating officers found a truck with both doors ajar, wedged under the front engine of the train. Both train and truck were still on the tracks. No one was in the truck or at the scene of the collision.

Shortly after, the driver, a 21-year old Chilliwack man and the passenger, a 23-year old from Agassiz, were brought back to the scene by a witness.

Witnesses told police that the truck drove north on Cameron Road, went around the railway arms, which were flashing and lowered, and proceeded to drive east on the railway tracks.

Two men were seen jumping from the vehicle moments before the train collided with the truck.

“It sounded like a game of chicken,” says Cst. Tracy Woldeck. “Just before the train was about to hit (the truck), they bailed out. A witness corralled them and brought them back to the scene.”

Alcohol was deemed to be a factor in this incident. The driver was a new driver and was to have a zero blood alcohol content. He received a 90 day suspension from driving and his vehicle was towed. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of accident, failing to obey traffic control device, and driving contrary to restrictions.

Cst. Woldeck says the men were very luck not to be injured.

“This incident consumed significant resources. This stunt was time-consuming for police as well as CP Rail workers. It disturbed the trains from transporting goods which is extremely costly to CPR for having to shut down and repair the tracks,” said Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth.

The investigation is ongoing by the Agassiz RCMP and further charges may be considered.

Not that any media notices this since most of them are lemmings; I'm not sure that's a CP train... I think that's a CN train.

Sounds like alcohol and a really good action movie were the cause of this incident! lol

Anyone ever play chicken by running AWAY from something? Unless of course, upon collision with the train, the truck was spun 180 degrees with no visible damage to the front. :dunno:

When I was with the RCMP, we saw this kind of thing happen ALL the time.

Many people reporting the news are sincere idiots.
